I finally got my playoff refund check from the Jets FO this morning. You guys were right... I shouldn't have sent it in right away. I tied up $1160 since before the holidays for nothing. Anyway... maybe next year I'll get to go to a home playoff game.
We were more lucky as the people we sell our tix to decline to ante up the money due to the smallest of chances we would have to host a home game
I just apply mine to the following season. It's that much less I have to come up with in the spring, once money is gone I consider it gone. Personally I find the pre-season games being mandatory at full price is a bigger rip-off.
Yes I agree with this. It changed when BP came & I thought at that rime it was Hesses way of paying for BP
I add the cost of the preseason games into the regular season tickets. I have 5 seats and manage a group of guys. I goto about 4 games a season. My tickets right now cost about $90 a game. In the past the preseason have been worthless but over the last 2 years I have been able to get some value on ebay but no where close to face
No question that the preseason tickets are the biggest rip-off ever. There is no way, on the open market, that some dude will pay me $95 per ticket to watch, basically, one quarter of 1st-team action. Preseason tickets should be priced at market value... $10-$20 is more like it.
This is correct... total BS. This is precisely why you'll tune in your TV channel to preseason games next August and see no one in the stands. It's demoralizing to the team and even more embarassing to the fans. A season ticketholder who has 2 sets of preseason tickets can't give the f*cking things away if he can't go. And he's paid full price, as if the Jets were playing the Patriots, for God's sake. So he either tries to sell them at a considerable discount on eBay (and lose money) if he can't attend, or give them away to some schlub who expects more of the same after the regular season starts. God forbid some 7 year-old kid should be able to see the New York Jets live and in person at a reasonable rate, even if it's preseason. Many of these kids don't know and could care less that it's preseason, they're taking their friends to see a real NY Jets game! But,... On No! The FO is charging full face value, so it puts the onus on the ticketholder to be the bastard charging all this money. He gets stuck holding the f*cking bag. He tries to sell them... to recoup even half his money, but to no avail. The result is, the stands are empty. Shame on the Jets front office (and all FO's) for doing this. They make enough money off the regular season to discount the preseason tickets and price them within reason (market value). They, at the very least, owe that to their fans and to their team who has to play on that empty field.
At one time before BP arrived season tix holders had the option if they wanted to purchase the xhibition tix or not. If they did not want them ithey did not have to buy them but still could purchase there season tix for the regular season.
I remember those days quite well. And, if I'm not mistaken, the prices of the 2 preseason games (if you wanted to buy them) were less than the regular games, making them closer to market value. Then, all unsold tickets went on sale to the general public, giving the "average Joe" the opportunity to take his kids to a game for, say, the equivalent of $25 per ticket today. He could pick up 4 tix for $100 and make an afternoon out of it with the family. But that was back in the days when the Jets organization (and all other football teams) were still run by football people and "football owners" who cared about their fan base, not the greedy bean counters, accountants and "business managers" who run the clubs today. It's a real screw-job, selling preseason tix for the price of a regular game. It ultimately screws the season ticketholder, the fan base and even backfires on the football organization itself. Charging $380 for 4 preseason Eagles games (4X$95) is an absolutely egregious scam. And then you get to see the starting team for all of about 15 minutes! WOWEE!
Yes when the change came I know I was POed as I never took the xhibition tix. I cannot recollect if in those days they charged less for the xhibition games but in any case yes it is a total ripoff for the tix holder. You know it is no different then what is charged for BB xhibition games now so I guess one sport has copied the other in that regard.
While everyone is on the subject of the pre season games. Since we had to purchase them, I have given them (when I can get rid of them) to people that do not know what a football is. Every other year I may have someone want the Giants game but other than that its like throwing 400 bucks into the toilet.
Baseball spring training tixs are only $10-$20...And the team does not force season holders to buy them.
Every NFL team requires its season ticket holders to buy preseason tix as part of the package. The Jets were the exception when they didn't require this. Please don't make this out to be an "evil" perpatrated by the Jet FO. If you want the Jets to be competitive, they need to be competitive in terms of revenues. Until the new stadium is built, the Jets are in the bottom third of the NFL in revenues. I pony up my $600 for the preseason games and never ever do I go. I give my tickets away when I can, but would never sell them. I try to give them to people I know that have never been to a Jet game. They are more appreciative and don't care as much that it is a boring, meaningless game.
Actually, I have enjoyed going to some preseason games, especially the Giants games. It's enjoyable because it's always a summer day and you can often sit in the stands in a T-shirt, even if it's a night game. The other thing I like about them is, I can usually grab a seat right down on the 50-yard line downstairs, where I'm 20' away from the players. But I also enjoy watching all the rookies who I've been watching at TC now "playing under the lights." It gets real interesting if you follow their progress at TC and now they've got their opportunities to show off what they've got. To the casual observer or to my wife, for example, it's just another preseason game. But to me, I like pointing out the rookies to her and telling her where they came from and which draft pick, etc. The Meadowlands is only a 35 minute drive for me, so it's not that big a deal.
