Broken finger.... Left guard Alan Faneca became the latest Jets offensive lineman to be sidelined when he broke his left middle finger this week. The veteran didn't practice Wednesday and will miss Friday's first preseason game against the Rams. "I probably broke it a couple days ago and I probably broke it more (Tuesday)," Faneca said. "It's frustrating that it's a finger that keeps you out of a football game." http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/08/alan_faneca_will_miss_ny_jets.html
Faneca seems like the type of guy who tear it off before he missed a game. maybe if it's a playoff game.
Rex to Schott: 'why are they starting their 2nd teamers?' Schott to Rex: ' Those are the 1st teamers on the Rams'
"Faneca, who had his fingers taped, said he would be able to go if it was a regular season game. " http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/08/alan_faneca_will_miss_ny_jets.html
Cimini is reporting (on his blog) that Ryan says this means fewer plays for Kellen and Sanchez in first PS game. Probably a good idea. However, it's going to make it really hard to evaluate the O during this game with three OL out. I would hope we all don't jump off bridges--or call for schotty's head--if it isn't pretty, because my guess is it won't be.
that's not surprising. it was probably rex's final say. if the man of gold and damien 'gives me a' woody aren't playing, might as well just let alan ' i'm a' faneca sit.
i remember watching one presser where he said he had the 3rd team go a lot more than he thought one day in TC. i wonder if he's thinking hard about pizzoti or ainge.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that Mangold, Faneca, Jenkins & Revis would all be playing if this were Week 1 at Houston. Woody, with a concussion, is another story.
And the Injuries continue: Faneca Breaks Finger HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Jets left guard Alan Faneca will miss the team's preseason opener against the St. Louis Rams because of a broken finger. Faneca didn't practice with the team at Hofstra on Wednesday night because he injured the middle finger on his left hand earlier in the week. He said he broke it a few days ago and then aggravated it near the end of practice Tuesday at SUNY Cortland. Faneca becomes the fifth starter who'll miss the game against the Rams on Friday because of injury, joining center Nick Mangold (right knee), right tackle Damien Woody (head), cornerback Darrelle Revis (left hamstring) and nose tackle Kris Jenkins (left calf). They are all injuries that the players can come back from before the season starts, but if the rookie QB starts - i fear by week 8 he's with a shitty line in front of him. If the line isn't fully healthy by week 1.. start Clemens anyway and let him take the beating. let's not shell shock two QBs in 3 years.
The Jets have been very lucky with injuries the last few years. They need that luck to continue to avoid having an off season next year. 3 offensive linemen with nagging injuries is not such a big deal in the NFL but if any of those 3 have bigger problems the Jets will be in real trouble.
