As bitterly disappointing as the Pat loss was to all of us Jet fans, I think we need to put the issues in perspective. Our problems for the last two weeks have been far more pervasive due to execution than play-calling. Three key concerns come to mind
    A) How many times have we screwed a good offensive drive because of dumb offensive penalties, easy dropped passes, too many players on the field, the works? It started in pre-season with the long TD to Cotchery and continues on. It cost us both in Miami and NE. We used to be a much disciplined team? What the hell is wrong with us now?
    B) Kicking field goals within the 40 yard line should be automatic. We drove it down their throats just to come out with nothing in both games. Both Miami and NE came out of the first drive with a huge moral victory without even touching the ball. We need a kicker we can count on
    C) Special teams ? One of our biggest strengths is going to sh@$%#t. Our punting is horrible, our kicking not much better, and all of the sudden we have no field position. NE started almost every possession inside Jet?s territory or damned near. You will not win too many games like that.

What cost us the game against NE and damn near against Miami was execution, pure and simple. Yes, a more aggressive play calling would help, but only when we learn to execute on the basics and win the battle of the trenches. I don?t care how good a defense is, with 3 downs on the one we should score on a running play. Kudos to our defense, but the Offense has a long way to go, before we need to fix the play calling.

Yes, there has been some execution issues. But the playcalling has been terrible. 3 runs from inside the 5? Where's the creativity? Where's the playcalling that keeps defenses off balance?

    I agree.

I'd add that the O-line still seems to be coming together as a unit. Thinking about the fact that we've gotten over 100 yards rushing two weeks in a row, once the line comes together we seemingly could be doing even better.

If the offense gets its act together the D should spend less time on the field. That would allow them to have something left in the tank in the fourth quarter.

I hope that we can get the execution straightened out before our season is in too much of a shambles.

It is a combination of play calling and execution, but we have bret farve if we can't rush to the endzone then let farve do what he does best.

I think it was a combination of the CS' bad playcalling and their own inept evaluation of talent on the roster. Schotty just doesn't know how to put a drive together where he places the talent he has in position to succeed. Successful OC's play to their own strengths.

There was nothing creative about the Patriots play calling and they did well enough to win. Crossing patterns to Welker and dump offs to Faulk were good enough. They didn't cross up our defense, they simply executed. You only need to be creative when you cannot succeed playing it straight.

On that play to Welker...the quick toss they always do where Welker catches it behind the line....the whole Jets defense went right on the fake to the RB. Terrible. I hate when a defense gets fooled so easily. But overall, the defense has played well. Give up 19 at home to anyone and you should win the ball game.

They were plenty creative. They kept our defense off balance. There's a reason why they marched down the field on us...as they ALWAYS do.

Say we had called a pass and failed...many of you would be screaming that the Pats *knew* what pass it would be because...well because of the play calling.

Or, say we were successful on the third run. Alluva sudden our coaches are showing toughness by trusting the team to get as mad as they would get for failing twice in a row on a rival team...

Coaches can only do so much on Sundays guys.

Huh? I saw alot of runs up the middle, some screens, and few (if any?) major passing plays.

I wonder if this perception is based off of who won or lost the game...HMMMM...

Then why the 'F' do we have Brett Favre? He's one of the greatest passing QB's inside the 5. What's the point if we're not going to use him. I understand your whole "The sky is not falling" theme you have going, but that play sequence was ridiculous.

Why does everyone keep going to "why do we have Favre then?"

    Have we...not used him?

There were a ton of play action passes, short quick passes to Welker, Faulk. We've seen them enough to know what they are going to do. They continue to play the same way against us and yet we are never prepared to stop them.

I'm going to throw out the fact that they're better than us...I'm also going to throw out the fact that this is a team who just had a major personnel overhaul playing their second real game together...I'm going to throw out the fact that we did the *same shit* on offense...I'm going to throw out the fact that we passed for more yards than them...that we ran for the same amount of yardage....I'm going to throw out the fact that we had more sacks than they had (though I realize this doesn't matter as much as pressures and hurries)...I'm going to throw out the fact that we committed 6 penalties to their 2...Our top 2 receivers cost us 60+ yards of offense in drops and penalties...

And that'll all ignored so we can blame this weeks board bitch...the coaching staff...specifically Shotty...

    Our coaching >>> execution.

I hope you're right, but I haven't been impressed with the coaching this year and I'm a huge Mangini/Schottenheimer supporter

I'm with you on my disappointment with these guys. They need to just get the team to take an aggressive approach to the game. In both games, they played like they hope to win, not expect to win.

I remember in years past teams ramming the ball three, or even four times at the end zone when they had lines they believed in.

Given the investment in our O-line why shouldn't they be able to get the ball in the end zone with that kind of tough play?

I get the feeling that Mangini would rather lose doing it his way than change it up a bit and win.
