No link, was just on ESPN news at the top of the hour. Said the Jets reported this last year to the league but didn't have confiscated film to back up the allegation.
I think it has been roundly accepted that they've been videotaping opposing coaches for several years.
I don't think it was sour grapes, but a couple of offensive Eagles players said that during their Super Bowl, everytime the Eagles called a blitz, the Patriots called a screen pass.
There should be evidence when New England turns over all the tapes. I still stand by my thinking that yes they were taping but my bet is they had a live feed going upstairs that sombody was analyzing before every single defensive play. As far as against us... it makes sense as why they were so much better than us in that playoff game. We had a legit shot at halftime but it seemed in the 2nd half they knew exactly what we were doing. They were also better than SD in the 2nd half. Coincidently they were unable to have a video guy against the Colts which might explain why they didn't go to the SB.
Oh wow. Can you imagine how catastrophic that would be if it were true? While I think that this year they have the most talented team in the NFL, and should be able to get by in the regular season based on that alone, maybe Belichick's old Cleveland ghosts start to haunt him come playoff time?
Sure, but this puts the old kabosh on that idiotic notion that Mangini didn't intend to bust the Pats in the nose over this.
Get real...you think Brady can't spot a blitz when the defense calls it? The mikes are shut off with 15 seconds on the play clock, there would be no way to alert him even if the coaching staff knew it. This is really pathetic. Good luck with your hopes of seeing the GPC.
Did you hear what Ron Jaworski had to say about this when asked by Charles Barkley during MNF? He basically said that everybody attempts to steal signals but video taping them is very wrong. He also said that if a QB knows what a team is doing on defense it makes an avg QB an unreal QB. He talked about an experience when he was with the Rams in 75 and he knew that the safety was going to be on the right side of the field because they stole the signals and the backup QB dropped a red towel alerting him that the safety would do so. He then proced to hit his WR for a 75 yard TD up the middle of the field where the safety normally plays. So much for your mics turned off theory, when you can't use technology use primative means.
Belichik has long been known as one of the best, if not the best, coaches in the business at making halftime adjustments and shutting offenses down in the second half. He did this as defensive coordinator/assistant head coach of the Jets for Parcells. Anybody here think Bill and Bill were taping opponents signals while they coached the Jets?
I'm sure they were, and it makes not going all the way in 98 a little less painful now, because it could have been tainted.... Parcells' reaction on ESPN to this story made it really obvious that he partook in this before.... And yes, Belichick has been known for making defensive adjustments at halftime, but that's not where he's benefiting with the sign stealing.... He's benefiting offensively... Bill has never been known as an offensive coach, and that his offense has improved tremendously since Charlie Weiss left says something about how far he's come.... But, outside of Sunday's game vs the Chargers, all of New Englands' impressive victories in the last 5 years or so have been marked by the same thing.... A competitive first half, followed by a second half in which their offense dominates..... I have no doubt that these two issues are related... I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but with the information we have now, combined with Bill/Kraft's refusal to tell the truth about the situation, even now that it's largely out in the open, and the experience I have watching the Patriots turn it on in the 2nd half in every big game, it's become quite obvious to me that something's up....
Exactly... There are only a handful of teams that have accused Bill of this practice, and only 3 where the camera man was spotted.... I expect nothing more than the Lions, Packers and Jets tapes to be turned over....
That's just it.... like Beaman said Parcells reaction was I'm gonna spin the story before I say something that incriminates me. I recall saying something to the effect of "Hey the New York (baseball) Giants stole signs from the Brooklyn Dodgers back in the 50's" My initial thought was Parcells approves of this and how can he compare a guy on the field stealing signs from a catcher vs a guy videotaping to steal from the defense? I don't think Willie Mays was out in CF with a camera taping signs from Roy Campanella.
I don't think that was his intention I didn't get the vibe he was saying that about Brady. I think he was making a general statement but I'll say it. Yeah an avg QB like Tom Brady into a HOFer. It's the old question.... if the Broncos don't have Terrell Davis does Elway (now being mentioned as the greatest QB of all time) get those 2 SBs and thus even in the discussion as greatest QB of all time. The question will now always hang over the head of Brady, was Michigan really that stupid or did Brady only succeed because his coach was cheating? My next question is does anybody really think this is only way the Pats are gaining an advantage over their opponents or are there other undiscovered ways they are doing it? My thinking is Chicken has cheated on his wife, he cheated the Jets and he got caught cheating in a game, throw in what George Young had to say about him and my bet is they have other ways they are gaining an advantage. What they are.... only he and the devil know.
