http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/feat...ttp://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors Jones on the move for 2010? 9:42AM ET Thomas Jones | Jets Jets might let Thomas walk after running so far in 2009. Can someone post the full article. Thanks. Sorry for the bad title.
Read that on rotoworld... it's the speculation of 2 Colts beat.reporters... prob just want to upset the locker-room before the game. The only way TJ might be leaving is because of a trade but frankly I think we are going to keep him. Still running well + leader in the locker room. What we might do (I'd do it) is re-negotiate the contract so instead of taking 7 mill next year he takes like 5 in 2010 + 1 in 2011 and 1 in 2012 (which essentially means veteran minimum + like a 0.2 mill bonus). All in all though since next year will be uncapped I'm cool with keeping him on his current deal.
Thomas Jones has been the exception to the age-old wisdom regarding NFL running backs in old age. Most backs start declining at age 30, but in his age 30 season (2008) and age 31 season (2009), he's had arguably his greatest campaigns, as seen at right. So why in the world would the New York Jets be debating letting him walk in free agency? That's the subject of debate right now, and in conversations with a few Jets beat writers, Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star has gotten the sense that the team might do just that. Jones is due a $3 million roster bonus on March 1, and rookie Shonn Greene answered the call nicely down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs. Additionally, the Jets should also have Leon Washington back next season, giving them a shifty back to pair with Greene. If Jones is not retained, we could see him getting some interest from the Chargers and Texans, both of whom will need a between-the-tackles back for 2010.
Well duh..is there anybody on the planet that could possibly surprised about this? Of course he if he wants to get up that huge roster bonus and renegotiate they might find a spot for him.
