Tyrod time. Not that he's the answer, but if ANYONE thinks Fields is good, see a neurologist ASAP. SEASON OVER in case you didn't know.
I don't think he's great, but I also don't think the CS is taking full advantage of his skills. There are way too many pocket passes and hardly any planned runs for Fields.
Fields can be the answer, depending on the question. Like if somebody was asking "how do you get a super high draft pick?" Tyrod is the answer to that one, too!
QBs are meant to read the defense, control the offense, and throw the ball. More planned runs == less opportunity to throw the ball. It's a gimmick at best. Every few years people forget this and try to reinvent football by essentially creating run option, wildcat, and RPO driven offenses. Doesn't work in the NFL for any length of time. If we don't have players to fit a scheme of "throw the ball", we don't need a new scheme. We need new players.
That's what the Jets have right now and they should take advantage of it. We can talk about a future QB that is a better thrower, but the Jets have Fields now.
Cue in the fans who don't watch games, and start throwing stats around!! To bad Fields couldn't perform in anything but garbage time
But the reality of it is, Fields will lead this team to the #1 pick, but you can only imagine how this brain dead franchise would fuck that up
Fatal flaw... Why sign a reclamation QB to a huge 2 year deal when you have NO ONE on staff that can develop him?? I think Glenn overestimated his staff's talent and abilities. Wilks seems overmatched and Tanner is still learning how to be a NFL OC. There's nobody in the bldg. that can help Fields develop past where he is right now which honestly, isn't very good.
You can’t make that change too early. If Tyrod gets hurt you begrudgingly put Fields back in and really fuck with the locker room psyche even more.
Today I learned...the Jets quarterback coach is a man named Charles London. He has been involved in the NFL since 2007, mostly dealing with running backs. He was a running back at Duke and also coached there for three years. In his NFL tenure he first became involved with quarterbacks in Atlanta in 2021 and 2022; in 2023 he was at the Titans and last year with Seattle. On its face, this does not stand out as the type of resume with tremendous insight into reading a field and decision making for a QB. He may be a great man and a great coach but if the plan here is for Fields to be an interim QB and the future of the franchise to be coming from the draft is London really the best guy for the position?
Fields is not an NFL caliber PASSING QB. The coaching staff was hoping to use a run heavy offense coupled with a mobile QB who can make short passes. This plan may have worked but they didn’t factor in the unprecedented amount of turnovers which caused the Jets to be playing from behind. They are not good enough in the passing game to catch up. Glenn shed some light on this today in his press conference. They know if they are passing 40+ times, it’s a loss. Last, the dilemma is, even if they turn to Tyrod, they have no passing threats outside of Wilson, so that game plan probably yields the same results as what we are seeing, except bigger Jet deficits on the scoreboard quicker. They need an NFL caliber PASSING QB in addition to more offensive playmakers outside.
