With all the talk of us trying to get a receiver, these are the only names I am hearing. I'm not in favor of trading 2010 draft picks at this time, I think the same way everyone else does, that this draft will be the deepest since a very long time. So..if you have your choice, which one would you take?
Boldin, of course. He's the best receiver out of the three. It's not about that anymore, it's about what we have to give up for either of them. We'd have to give up the least tangible assets for Plaxico, but we'd also attract media and legal attention.
Boldin is the Best, but Burress is the only one who would cost us no assets. That makes him my choice of those three.
If either one can play for us in 2009, then I'd go with Plax, hands down. Only because there will be no compensation as far as draft pick and/or a player is concerned.
Boldin wants $10mil a year, which is supposedly why the Cards couldn't get a decent offer (all that is if you believe reports) and Burress is going to prison. Cleveland has stocked up on recievers, and I'm not sure why they still have Edwards since its so obvious he's gone. But anyway, I voted Edwards because its the most realistic choice, not necessarily the best.
On a related note, PFT said that the Ravens have brought in Kelly Washington, DJ Hackett, Jerry Porter, and Tab Perry for a tryout. I wouldn't mind taking a look at Washington or Hackett. I mean, they all have flaws but I think both of these guys might provide some stability to the receiver corps. Plus, they all have been more productive than every other receiver on the Jets. I for one think its a lot to expect Stuckey, Clowny, and Smith to pan out. I would expect at most one. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/05/06/ravens-to-try-out-four-receivers/
?? Braylon Edwards drops more balls than Times Square. I voted we were fine only because I would like us to run run run til our daddy takes the t-bird away, however, I agree that Edwards is the best option: young and not injury prone (either football-related or otherwise) plus we can probably rip Mangini off in the process.
Edwards, for all of the reasons already mentioned as well as the fact that he's a long-term solution and Burress just seems like he would be a band-aid for a year or two.
Boldin is by far the best out of the 3, but when you factor all the variables (cost, compensation, baggage, age, health, etc.......) Edwards probably makes the most sense
If Plax doesn't go to jail, he wouldn't cost us anything in terms of compensation...and his contract may be relatively modest
Id take Burress if he can get his act together and his legal problems. But if that isn't available Id take Edwards. Boldin is a better version of Crotchery. Edwards is the speed tall guy we need to complement our existing corps.
