OK guys, I have to say, I feel like some of you have really been brainwashed. I support our coach, and FO but here are a few things I have aproblem with. We took at guy who is like 34 years old who was under a lot of great coaches. That doesn't tell me anything about him. Mangini hasn't done anything yet-- not even as a defensive coordinator. (pats D was awful last year) Any other year, everyone would be screaming about picking up a bum like Chatham, but now that we have a link to belicheck, you all want his leftovers. This guy is a 28 year old special teams player. Mark Brown is a better player, with twice the upside as him, yet we cut him. I can bet that nobody on this site has seen him play a snap, or even mentioned his name before this week. This guy is a career backup at best. Just because the pats won with a few role players, please consider that the majority of the team was stacked. They have an amazing QB- a great scheme, PRO-BOWL players and quality depth. Look at their WR and TE-- their backups would be starters for our team. That is why they are good. Yes, they utilize players who would otherwise be overlooked, but I guy like Chatham isn't the reason they won 3 SBs. They have a kicker who never missed, a QB who can do it all in a big game, Great young talent (look at their front 3, their secondary, their OL and their WR/TE- they are all young). With their LB being so old, why would they let Chatham go if he was any good at all? He knows their system (many of you are swearing by that argument for this guy being key for us) he is cheap, blah blah blah-- they don;t want him. Not even at a position of great need. Because he is not good. WE ARE NOT THE PATRIOTS. Just because we have one of their totally unproven coaches, doesn't mean that we can just plug in any asshole to do the job, as they have done in a few occations. We need to sign younger players with some upside, which this guy has none, and is almost 29. He has more than likely met his full potential. If you look at recent signings -- McGlocton, Buckly, Tounge, Conway-- these guys are bums. They all ended up being cut after a year, played poorly, and left us with dead cap space. now look at Barton, Barrett, McCareins-- they are all good starters, and are cheap against the cap. These are the guys we need to bring in... mid 20's, good players who we can have for years. not one year signings who played their entire career elsewhere, and are just trying to cash in one last time like McGinist or VonOlehoffnen. If you want to argue that we have no one to teach the young guys- well ask Martin, CP, Ellis, Coles, and Kendal what they think of that. If you believe in our coaching staff, we won't need some old vet to come in for the young guys and "show them the ropes" Did any of these other old signings in the past work out? No. Ty law was told to stay away from Justin Miller for his poor advice, and he was a locker room cancer. Why? Because he was not a Jet, and he knew he was gone after one year. he just wanted a fat check. Rebuilding involves a foundation- and a foundation is solid. If you are part of the foundation, you do not leave after a year or two- and you will not be a backup/special teams player when you are 29.
Hey, do me a favor. I've had enough Koolaid references to last me 3 lifetimes. Find another expression.
In all honesty, I just put together a ton of good facts, and opinions on the team we all supposedly love, and I get some deadbeats with supid comments that have nothing to do with the post. So, because of that, they can blow me. And I really don't care if I get kicked off for a week-- I don;t learn anything from anyone on here-- nobody knows enough about this to teach me anything I don't already know.
You're also not patient enough to post on a message board. If you had just given it another, say, 2 minutes, you probably would have gotten some serious and mature and capable responses. Instead, you threw a tantrum.
What does patience have to do with me thinking Chatham is a bum, and thinking that we should not sign McGinist, or Von Olhoffen? I am not a guy who rants and raves about not signing anyone yet. With the FA available now, I'd rather wait until more players get cut and pick them up months from now.
Hotcoles I can see what is worrying you, but signing Matt Chatham is not the beginning and end of this process. It looks like the new FO team will be looking to add the quality through the draft, rather than bringing in top free agents. And nobody will know if your fears for Mangini will be justified or not for a couple of seasons. We all need to be patient and see how this thing works out.
Your post is well thought out. Why you would ask somone to blow you is the part that got to me. I think what some posters mean is...how can you think people are drinking the kool-aid after a couple months. Posters are reacting to moves that this front office is making...period. Alot of folks around here were disgusted with the past regime. So there is a lot of benefit of the doubt going around...but thats normal with any new group that takes over any team. Just calm down a bit my friend....thats all.
I have no problem with you questioning the signings of certain players. More power to you. And if you're uneasy about such a young and seemingly inexperienced HC, then I agree and share the feeling. But you've appeared to write them off as immediate failures. I don't think Chatham is going to be a starter, but from a logistics standpoint, we just picked up an immediate depth player from a championship-caliber defense for a contract heavily laden with incentives. As long as it's not overpaying, I don't have a problem with that.
Honestly, like I said, most people here can't teach me anything about football, so I really don't care about the feedback. i ge tfrustrated when I see bad opinions, and i speak my mind. I like writing- I like arguing, and I like proving points. I don't come on here to learn from you -I have never seen a meaningful post from you, other than just bashing people with no real substance behind your comments. Noone on this site will ever make me rethink a position of mine.
If you showed patience and waited....someone would have commented on your post. At least these guys were bumping up your post. Now you've turned this into a flame-o-thon.
