http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1087772&postcount=1 It was a no-win situation, thanks to... someone who was negotiating contracts in our FO.
Vilma's a 3rd based on playing time incentives. We'll be giving back the 4th they gave us last year. If they sign him before the start of Free Agency, we'll get a 2nd...and give back the 4th. So basically as it stands right now, we traded Vilma for Fruvehmy:...yuck!
Vilma was injured, Favre is old. It was gamble on both accounts  Anyway, let's say the JETS get a 2nd for Vilma (or even the 3rd). Do you think they package it with their 1st (17?) to move up and get one of the QB prospects?
I suppose that depends on who our new HC will be... Psh, who the hell am I fooling? I doubt they even consult the new HC.
It is possible. But a 3rd, isn't going to move us that high. without checking the draft value chart, I would guess we wouldnt get any higher than 12, and that is probably if they are desperate to move down, and take a little low on the trade.
if we are in the market for a 1st rnd QB we can stay put at 17 and still get a good one. A lot of teams drafting early, already have their QB in place.
Didnt Flacco go aroun 16-20 ...not saying he is a solid QB that can lead a franchise ...but there could be some decent talent around (if we are looking QB) around our pick.
Such as? I haven't looked at the draft at all, I'll be honest, but even I know without even thinking about it that, for example, the Lions draft first, and that Kitna is now a FA and has made clear he wants out, and finally, Detroit has been using high first round draft picks on WR for so long that they need a good QB to make any of that worth it. And SF? Rams? KC? Just throwing teams with worse records out here off the top of my head. I just had a weird thought. If the new HC says he wants Favre cut, and he gets cut (instead of retiring) ... do the Lions go after Favre? Cutting is the only way he gets there, we can't trade him because of the poison pill Green Bay put in their trade.
I believe Flacco was the second QB taken though. If I remember correctly he was rated the second best QB in the draft. The two top guys now are Bradford and Stafford and those guys are both likely to be gone by pick 10 at the latest. A guy like Sanchez could be available when the Jets pick at 17 but they shouldnt just draft a QB just for the sake of drafting one. If they cant get Stafford or Bradford then I would probably wait on drafting a QB until either the second or third round and or just let Ratliff or Clemens battle it out.
obv some teams, lions will want a franchise qb, but they might take a lt, and the rams have marc bulger with his GIGANTIC contract, they wont draft a franchise qb, SF will draft a qb prob, Alex smith was a gigantic bust, KC, might stick with Thigpen, besides having other needs, he did do a decent job of leading the team with not much around him
The terms of the trade state that if the Jets subsequently trade Favre to an NFC North division team, they will owe additional compensation to the Packers of their next 3 first round picks. This was mostly done to keep Favre from going to Vikings and allowing them to take division away from Packers ... which ended up happening anyway even without a good QB in Minny.
