hey everyone, i know everyone is very upset about missing out on free agents, but paying $16 million/year for someone like Sammy Watkins makes me gag. He was fourth in catches on his own dang team last year. Missing out on someone like Allen Robinson stinks and same with Westburg, but these could look like significant overpays in the next few years. You're always going to pay a premium for the top guys in the first few days and just because we have a bunch of cap space does not mean we should be shelling out money for every free agent out there. that would be extremely negligent. i understand that the cupboard looks bare, but we have some very exciting young talent that cannot be forgotten. concerning offense, we cannot just gloss over chad hansen, ardarious stewart, and elijiah mcguire. being a contributor as a rookie in the NFL is veryyyy difficult (it was parcells that said you lose a game for every rookie you start) and there is no reason to believe they won't improve next year and be contributors. let's not forget about enunwa as well, who looked like he could be a great receiver before he got hurt. that has the potential to be a solid core moving forward. on defense, jamal adams and marcus maye looked great as rookies, but they are still far away from what they can become. no reason to think that with another offseason that adams could push for an all-pro bid and maye could be a perennial probowler. just as a reminder, landon collins was a fucking dumpster fire his rookie year and was incredible his sophomore year. it takes time in the NFL. i know leonard williams is controversial on his board, but he is also an incredible young piece moving forward. on NFL Network, they talked about how this is the best young defensive core in the league. hearing something like that is nice. additionally, people need to stop talking about our losing culture as a reason for us missing on free agents. it seems like this locker room is really building something and that definitely spreads around the league. todd bowles may be quiet with the media, but i've watched countless interviews with players that have nothing but love for their coach. this team was pegged to go 0-16, but bowles inspired to be competitive almost every week this season. i doubt many coaches could do that. Josh McCown said he wants to stay with the Jets because he loves the locker room, the coaches, and what is building here. no one forced him to say that. we need to give ourselves some more credit. this team is building something
You make some good points, but we really need a QB, OL(especially C and LT), edge rusher, and a RB who can be a home run threat anywhere on the field. WR is not the biggest need, but more depth wouldn't hurt given Anderson's off the field issues and Enunwa coming back from injury. The offense has to be able to put up points in today's game.
Name recognition fallacy. Every team has young guys but because we know our guys' names we think ours are good. Newsflash: they aren't.
Dom...many valid points, but we need to solidify the OL, CB, ...I am not upset about Cousins, Watkins and many of these over-priced signings....just the FO needs to show and carry out a plan in the next several days...
I'd say that some of them are good. Leo, Adams, Maye, Anderson, and Enunwa aren't nobodies. What we lack is top tier game changing players.
I've been hearing about our "young core" (that isn't good now, but will be in the future) since 1984. Our young core is terrible compared to everybody else's young core.
Except remember how when Williams and Adams were drafted how they were going to have immediate impact? Sure, they've done well, but the Jets still went 5-11 with both of these "impact players on the team. When will Macc finally add some TRUE impact players?
And the point isn't to sign a few big free agents and become prime Super Bowl contenders. They need to bring in some talent and make a couple significant signings, yes, but this year should also be about the younger players continuing to play and take strides forward (i.e. hopefully Hansen/Stewart, Shell, Lee, Martin, Adams, Maye)
Lol, they are solid players but they are what they are. None of them are game changers. None of them are elite talent that will make any all pro team and their ceiling is possibly a pro bowl or two. Typical Jets fanboy that thinks their players are so great.
This team has 0 players that are top 5 at their position. We need some top level talent and haven’t really had any since Brick, Mangold, and Revis in their primes.
dude this team would have went 5-11 last year with a fucking healthy JJ Watt or a healthy Khalil Mack. one player does not make a team
Who said "one player makes a team"? Macc has had 3 years to add impact players. At best, he maybe has added 4, all on the defense, none on the offense. Dude, it's takes offence score points to win.
Game changers.Playmakers. Dynamics. Call it what you will the Jets have zero of it. They'd rather fill a hole than draft for impact.
