I think he would be a great fit. He's very productive, he can cover and gets a lot of tackles. He's one of the best 3-4 ILBs out there and he could defenitely help out Vilma and Schlegel. He will be a free agent so we don't have to give up anything to get him plus he could start and help us out right away.

eh, he's 33 years old, and will probably want a bunch of money since he had a good year and his agent is Condon.

he's definitely good, but goes against the youth movement. besides, we don't know if Barton will be cut, or if Hobson will move to ILB.

    cheers

If he doesn't retire, he'll be looking for a front heavy 2-3 year contract. While he has been effective in his career, his legs are old at a position which takes quite a toll on players body

ON the other hand, the belicheck system involves the mixing of young players with wiley veterans-- a category which edwards fits. it will be interesting to see if the jets make a play at him, even though i don't see him playing more than 20 snaps a with vilma and barton still learning the system.

time will tell... it sucks waiting for the activity to start!!!!

Hell no, too old, gunna ask for too much money, and isn't everyone saying J-Vilma is too small at 233? Donnie Edwards is under 230, and his speed is only fading. This defense can't handle two players at that size, ideally we would want Vilma to take over what Edward's role was in San Diego, a fast cover linebacker....

Definitely, no team will win a championship with all of 1st and 2nd year players. A veteran presence is need in our LB corp. If they cut Barton and sign Edwards I would be satisfied.

actually, overall, the D is a pretty experienced unit. i don't know why you put words into peoples' mouths and exaggerate by saying bunch of 22-year-olds. next season, we'll probably have two young guys (rookies) playing on D -- and i don't even know if that means starting, maybe just contributing.

so, what are you talking about, "our obsession with young players?"

    cheers

Im not sure how well he'd fit with what we have right now but you would have to think he would beable to help Vilma out alot since he knows how to be productive in the 3-4 being small and speedy. But im doubting this happens.

why dont you just read your own posting...

so once again, whats your obsession with young players? this isnt madden. we have tons of young players who cant get the job done because our team lacks leadership. no teddy bruschi, mike vrabel or rodney harrison. instead you want us to count on justin miller, drew coleman, anthony schlegel, sione pouha, dave ball and company. woohoo superbowl 2008 here we come.

edwards has about 2 good years left in him. theres not a better 3-4 ILB teacher out there right now. he could help out vilma bigtime. and anthony schlegel as well.

i think Vilma is a good leader; Rhodes will be a good leader; Barton seems vocal (not sure if he'll still be here though). while Donnie Edwards would be a good teacher, he's not going to transform the players into great 3-4 players. they'll get it, just need more time.

    cheers

i can't understand that post, but what your saying is that he isn't an upgrade over what we already have.....okay

    1996 Kansas City Chiefs 15 21 17.0 4 0 1 22 22.0 22 0 1
    1997 Kansas City Chiefs 16 101 79.0 22 2.5 2 15 7.5 12 0 6
    1998 Kansas City Chiefs 15 122 78.0 44 6 0 0 0.0 0 0 2
    1999 Kansas City Chiefs 16 122 97.0 25 3 5 50 10.0 28 1 3
    2000 Kansas City Chiefs 16 132 113.0 19 1 2 45 22.5 42 1 3
    2001 Kansas City Chiefs 16 129 97.0 32 2 0 0 0.0 0 0 4
    2002 San Diego Chargers 16 128 100.0 28 0 5 95 19.0 46 1 5
    2003 San Diego Chargers 16 161 122.0 39 0.5 2 27 13.5 15 0 6
    2004 San Diego Chargers 16 150 104.0 46 1 5 49 9.8 30 1 8
    2005 San Diego Chargers 16 152 112.0 40 3 2 15 7.5 14 0 9
    2006 San Diego Chargers 16 141 97.0 44 2.5 3 11 3.7 8 0 4

    thats his stat line ^

    mainly, look at his tackles...

our whole linebacking core = 991 career tackles, while donnie edwards =1,359 career tackles, so saying he isn't an upgrade is definetly inexcuseable

Cool so we can cut Vilma, Barton, Hobson and Thomas and use a 1 Linebacker scheme.

No one on our D has been playing nearly that long, how are they supposed to come close in tackles.............

The past 5 years he averaged about 150 tackles and 4 interceptions per season. He's a very productive player who can help out our young linebacking corps and start right away at ILB next to Vilma with Barton and Bryan Thomas at OLB.

We would be a good fit because 3 out of the 4 teams in the afc east have artificial grass. Hes allergic to natural grass, therefore he is guarenteed 10 games without allergic reactions!

Now that is a good logical, well reasoned answer to counter someone that yaps about how old he is..................thanks finally. However my guess is he would be too expensive given his production vs. his age. If we can get him reasonable hell yeah bring him in.

i just heard london fletcher will be a free agent as well. the bills dont want to re-sign him because he's too old but he still has a couple of good years left in him. he can play the 3-4 and has great size for an ILB
