Ugh. I was really hoping that age would prevent Schotty from being a hot commodity. I guess Mangini broke down the age barrier. It's really going to hurt if he does go, but it's going to cut really deep if he stays in the division.

One more year junior, just give us one more year! You'll have the chance the again next year.

He's earned the interviews, but I doubt he steps into any of the open jobs. I think the Dolphins go with a more established coach, personally.

I really hope Schott stays with the Jets. I don't think he is capable, in my opinion, for the Head Coaching job of a team just yet.

This is why some teams just suck they go for the flash in the pan. Look I love Shott and his play calling THIS year. He had a lot of success becuase he was new, now that teams know how he calls game, lets see how well he does next year. Remember Chad of 2002, great year, now defenses know how to play him, but he still has other tools to win games, hence 10-6.

Yes but it would be really wrong of us to not let him interview for a HC job.

no, Mangini has 3 rings, Schotty is 1 yr removed from being a QB Coach. Secret flights to Caroll in Costa Rica, and now this. Huizenga is desperate, the face of a once respectable franchise is now in question with a QB carousel thats been spinning ever since Marino left. and now Saban pulls the plug 2 yrs into it.

i hope hes stays but if he leaves, hes not nearly as ready for the HC job as Mangini was when leaving Foxboro

I may be incorrect, but wasn't Mangini only the DC for one season after Romeo left?

Brian will be a Head Coach in the NFL at some point, but I'm not sure if I see the Dolphins making him an offer. Could just be testing the waters, but let's not expect the worst until it happens...

We were 17th in passing offense and 25th in total offense, for crying out loud. It's not as if we were some kind of offensive powerhouse. And I don't think many other quarterbacks are as cerebral as Chad is in executing Schottenheimer's intricate plays, so I don't see Miami getting any kind of immediate benefit there either, other than to annoy the sh*t out of us and spotlight Schottenheimer, so that even if they don't take him, someone else will because he'll be seen as being in such "demand."

Huizenga is desperate as hell but also a clever businessman. Even if his attempt at luring Schottenheimer away fails now, he's accomplished something by accelerating the timing of Schottenheimer's departure from us.

For a move-up to HC from OC we can't deny the Dolphins the chance to talk to him. We'd need to give them permission to talk to him obout the OC's job or a lesser job though.

I loved the creativity of our O this year but I much prefer an O with the personal to man up and blow people off the line run the ball and go over the top with the passing game. In the long run I think that's what Mangini wants to do anyway.

We can lose Shot, the most important thing is bringing in someone to develop Clemens.

I think they actually do have to request permission, but it is more of a formality than anything. It wouldn't look good for a team to deny a coordinator the chance to get a HC job. It would make it almost impossible to get other good coordinators to accept jobs then.

Do we get any compensation if they take him while he is under contract?

First, the article already said the Jets have granted the permission. So that is neither here nor there.

Second, for those pointing to Schott's inexperience, the same thing was said about Eric Mangini 12 months ago.

Third, B Schott is highly credited for both the resurgence of Drew Brees in San Diego, as well as the development of Phillip Rivers.

If anyone honestly believes that Schotty Jr. is going to be here when the calendar reads February 2008, they are in for a rude awakening. And the chances of him winding up somewhere this year are very good as well.

I think in General all NFL teams are looking for young assistants to fill thier head coaching spots. While I doubt Schott will get the job, the past few years teams have shied away from hiring the usual re tread former coaches for a younger breed of coaches with new ideas. this is a copy cat league and if NO and NYJ can stand out with thier young staffs, then I am sure other teams have taken notice.
