Well, now that we have CJ, we have to provide him a quality OLine to run behind or he'll be the same CJ that got run out of Tenn. Our OLine certainly could use some revamping particularly on the right side. Hopefully, D'brick can bounce back but in order for our run game to shine, our OLine will have to return to form. It's not like we don't have the picks to use on upgrading. What do you guys think?
I don't think so. We still need a playmaker at WR and dual threat TE. If we can get those maybe CJ/CI see fewer 8-man boxes. Besides, Idzik used 3 picks on OL last year and to do the same this year would be like admitting those picks were wasted. Don't see that happening yet. My guess is the OL help won't come until the 4th at the earliest.
I don't think so at all. The plan, in my opinion, was there all along. Idzik was looking to add playmakers to an offense severely lacking talent. Vick was a plan and Decker was a plan. Chris Johnson fell into their laps and they jumped on it. We needed playmakers, and that's what we got. It doesn't end here though. We have 12 picks in the draft and you can bet your ass we will sign one or two offensive lineman. Keep the competition going, but don't deviate from the plan.
I don't think it does, but only because I think OL was a priority before this signing. I don't think signing Chris Johnson affects our willingness to bolster the OL at all. I still think the first and second rounder will be BPA out of every position besides DL and RB.
Unfortunately I think that we are stuck with Colon to start with, but depending on how the draft and June 1st turn out, that may be a temporary solution. Same with Winters. I'm interested in seeing Breno Giasomething but I have a feeling he won't be a step down from Howard, who was not bad. Have Winters between them and a rookie signal caller hurt Mangold and Brick, I'm not ready to see them go.
if Lewan is there at 18, i'd take him. but that has nothing to do with signing Johnson, just a BPA thing at a position as important as OT.
Yep, if Lewan is there at 18 there's a very good chance he is the BPA and gets taken. You don't get good shots at a franchise quality LT very often without picking in the top 6 or 7. It'd be tough for the Jets to pass that up.
Tiny Richardson (OT) 2nd round Tennessee. That will get us our LT of the future and shed DBrick's contract. WR, OT, CB, OLB, S,OG, P should be our strategy in that order.
We still haven't seen a lot of Brian Winters yet,id venture to guess we sign another FA linemen or draft one in the fourth round
get the best receiver available in the first. then in the second or third we should target: Antonio Richardson, Dakota Dozier, Joel Bitonio.
The first thing I thought after hearing about the signing is that we need to now readdress the O-Line. A good blocking TE would be nice too.
I don't think it makes a major difference in our draft strategy. I think it is just more proof Brandin Cooks is not our type of player, and I'm seeing the Jets go defense in round 1 right now. BPA is the way I've wanted to go, but I'm looking at this draft, and if our top rated guys are pretty much all off the board, but Darqueze Dennard is there at 14, and we have the strong feeling the Steelers will take him at 15, I say just pull the trigger and trade up those 4 spots. Based on the chart (which I know is not perfect) we could probably move up by giving up our 1st, the Bucs' 4th, our 6th, and a 2015 4th. To me giving up those 3 other picks is worth the drop from Dennard to whatever other player will be available. The Bears will probably be ok with dropping from 14 to 18. With our focus clearly on running the ball, playing shut-down defense becomes a bit more important. Unless there's a player we think PIT would choose over DD that is.
Well, looking at Ferguson's contract, 2016 will be the year that we'll most likely move on from Ferguson (assuming that he doesn't return to his old dominant level.) At that point we'd save $9m in cap space by cutting him, so if he's continued to decline I think that will be the year the Jets would part ways with him. I guess the question is, is it worth using an early round pick for a player that probably won't play until 2016? Is Tiny that awesome? If we think he has the potential to be an all-around great left tackle for a very long time, then maybe it's worth it - but the downside is that that takes away an opportunity to make the team better in 2014 and 2015. If you draft a guy who should be starting and contributing even as a rookie, then that could make a bigger impact. I think there are enough weak spots on the roster that it'll be hard for us to justify taking a guy in rounds 1 - 3 who we don't view as even a potential rookie starter. It could be a better move to draft a wide receiver or an outside linebacker, or a cornerback, who can contribute right away and hopefully help the Jets make the playoffs in 2014.
Making that trade still leaves us with Dennard, a 2nd, a 3rd, two 4ths, a 5th, three 6ths, and a 7th. Throw the 7th into the trade if that's what gets it done. We'll still walk away with 9 picks.
no, no trade ups. not in the first, not like that. are the jets in a mood to go after THEIR guy? I don't think they have a guy like that, no not even Dennard. they'll take the best talent available to them, they won't jump for anybody. I'd sooner think hey'd trade DOWN then up.
