He had a serious injury a year and a half ago, it isn't getting much better. He will just take up another roster spot and I think Jones, Washington and maybe even Houston might be better than him at this point in his career. If he comes back he will get no playing time, or get hurt and that would be a horrible ending to his career.

Curtis was a great back and will go down as the best Jets back of all time and he deserves it, but don't you want him to hang it up??

I said in another Curtis thread just yesterday that I certainly do think he should retire, but the reasons you gave actually have nothing to do with it, since he wouldn't make the team if he couldn't contribute at a meaningful level. IMO the real question is should he stop pretending that he can be an NFL player any more, since I don't think there is the slightest chance he could actually make the team.

I tend to believe the thread from yesterday about how he is just doing this last dance for insurance purposes...but if he is serious in any way whatsoever...

    Mr. Martin,

Thank you so much for all the memories and making us proud to be Jets fans again. A lot of our '90s success was through your hard work and dedication. We will never forget you. And when you come back every few years for player appreciation day, I want you to walk out on the field under your own power. No crutches, wheelchairs, or canes. So, please for the love of god and your knees, retire.

    Sincerely,
    NJJets

If you really think hes trying to come back, you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

I think everyone around the organization believes he's done, and anything else is just a pipe dream.

I'm just waiting for the formalities so Curtis can walk into HOF and off into the sunset.

Right now Curtis needs to get on with life and so do the Jets. Do it with respect because of what he meant to the team and the fans but definitely time to end the languishing slow retirement.

The hardest thing for an invincible guy to do is admit he finally fell to injury and age but he did.

i think we owe it to curtis to have him go out however he likes. life is full of challenges and if he can comeback from this injury and still be a player good enough to make our roster than i want him here. but its up to him. i wouldnt want to leave the game never getting a chance to say good bye like him

My heart would still love to see him step out in a Jets Jersey one last time, even if it was with 1 second of garbage time left in a blowout game. That way he would get the send off and ovation he deserves. So thats the only reason that I would like to see him still on the team come the season.

I dont want him to injure himself long term and this bone on bone condition sounds terrible so I worry that Curtis might push it just for one last go at it all.

But my head says he will retire very soon, and if so I can only give a big thankyou to the man. What a player he has been for us and I truly hope the organization finds a way to honour him in the coming season somehow. Maybe a walk on in a pre-season or something I dont know?

Point well made, I could not agree more. That said I think Curtis knows that it is over and he will do what is best for him, his family and the Jets.

He is retired, he just hasn't formally retired yet, but he's never playing again. He will make the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, and the Jets will then retire his number.

My queston is, does he become eligible for the Hall five years after he officially retires or five years after his last game in 2005?

Well, nobody knows better how he feels than Curtis, but realistically his golden years in pro football are past. Why risk permanent damage down the road when he can enjoy what he has.

He has been a class act all the way; he has nothing to prove to anyone.

    He should retire.
