I thought that he would have been a super stud for us! Instead, he ended up going to a team with crappy blocking. I still believe, though, that at the end of the day, Leon Washington is going to shock the JetsNation with his ability to take over the starting spot Dominick Davis style and make some big things happen.
I would have liked to, but I think even if we had offered him a oakland type contract, he would have left, he obviously was not happy here and wouldn't have wanted to wait another year to start.
Hard to say....in hindsight it would have been nice to have him last season when Curtis got hurt. But at the time it was the right move to let him go because he was going to be expensive. However, looking at our RBs right now, I do wish he was still on the team.
we should have gotten rid of him a year before he signed with OAK... we would have gotten picks at least...
I think e-x has got it. He probably wouldn't have stayed no matter what, but obviously we all would have liked to have kept him because we all knew C-Mart was going to break down and we were going to be in need of a good young RB.
Jordan was in an unusual place with the Jets: 26 and very little tread off the tires. I think we should have signed him as opposed to having to go hunting for a premier back in a year or two anyway. The other side of the argument would be that Martin was going to hold on for two more years anyway and Jordan at 28 was going to start having issues regardless of the number of carries he had at that point. If the Jet's line was going to stay strong then not re-signing Jordan was a clear error. Given that it collapsed it's a less certain proposition. I do believe that the tailback is the last piece in the puzzle for a rebuilding team. There's no point in having your stud get the crap beat out of him behind a bad line for a season or two as you rebuild it.
it was just bad timing....had c-mart gone sour earlier then we would have wrapped him up.....but coming off a rushing title we had to keep him and obviously we had enough cap troubles without signing lamont....in the nfl you see a lot of good players move to other teams....I dont think you can blame anyone for this one..not even dumbway...wrong spot, wrong time
Not for the money he was demanding... If we could of kept him at back-up money, then absolutely. ^Thats not fair that he doesnt have to follow the 10 character minimum
I don't think so. I think he's way overrated. He was a good insurance policy to Martin, but not much more.
In assessing what Jordan did last year you also have to take into account who he was playing for. In 1985 Marcus Allen rushed for 1,759 yards for the Raiders. That was the last top 5 finish for a Raiders back. Since then there have been only 4 seasons in which a raider's back rushed for 1,000 yards. In 1995 Harvey Williams went for 1,114 yards, in 1997 Napoleon Kaufman went for 1,294, in 2000 Tyrone Wheatley went for 1,046 and in 2005 Jordan went for 1,025. The Raider's system just does not allow a back to put up great numbers. It NEVER happens. At least not in the last two decades. So projecting what Jordan would have done for the Jets based on what he does for the Raiders will never work. All of the evidence suggests that Jordan would have produced at a higher level in the Jet's systems than he ever will for the Raiders. And he may well still have a good career in Oakland, it just won't include any of the 1,500 yard seasons that great backs are judged by, at least not until Al Davis dies and somebody else takes over the team.
