refer to this: http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/coaches/ I could really care less whether or not we keep any of these guys, as I'd like to give our new head coach as much leeway as possible in assembling his new staff so he can be comfortable. However, I guess I'd like to keep Callahan and Westhoff. Devlin also did a good job with the OL and the TE's. Maybe keep Jimmy Raye as the RB coach, too. Perhaps keep Bryan Cox, Jerome Henderson, and Rick Lyle for nostalgia purposes as well, hah.
I'm not interested in retaining anyone. Honestly, and I know this is going to sound silly, but the only guy I would willingly retain is Mangini, as defensive coordinator. I'd give him a shot to show whether his version of the 3-4 was workable, or if he was as much to blame as Sutton. Special Teams played like shit as the year went on. Westhoff should have taken the whole year off. Does Callahan get credit for the OLine, or does Tannenbaum? Fire everyone. If you're going to start a fire, be prepared to burn the whole damn forest to the ground.
Ditto. Westhoff has given this team good special teams for a while.. The offensive line was terrific. Callahan should stay also.
the Hoff. and keep him QUICK!! not only was he the ONLY one to ever show fire but he was originally in Miami and um if Bill stays there he will be snatched up quick.
That's a fair point to raise. I guess we'll never know, but he's always had a stout reputation as somewhat of a running game guru. The OL certainly had good cohesiveness this season.
FIRE the entire coaching staff except Special team coach. Fire the GM, he does not know what he is doing.
Tannenbaum erred on the Favre acquisition and not trading Chad, but he's done a good job otherwise. He's an improvement over Bradway and deserves another year, at least.
Um, I'd extend his contract and give him a raise. Look at his draft history and the free agents he's signed. He's been great. So why would you fire him?
Why does Westhoff get such a grand pass? We had a missed extra point and a blocked punt on base punt converage yesterday. PLUS, it was his great input that influenced the Nugent draft debacle (and it seems fair to call it that, now). Leon Washington runs end-to-end and Westhoff is a genius, but Hodges gets a punt blocked leading to three points and Westhoff is still somehow a golden boy. Again, why does he get such a free pass here? What's so precious that we need to keep him around?
Westhoff has had wayyyy too much input with the drafts, that is for sure. That's one of the few problems I've had with him. He gets a pass from me because his schemes get results more often than not. There have been games we've won on STs alone. His coverage and blocking schemes are almost always the most well-executed schemes on the field, Mangini or Herm, didn't matter. He's also the only one to get any production out of Gholston. Water from a stone, my friend.
Bingo. If not for the fact that Leon Washington might be the most explosive player in the entire sport, our special teams would be total crap right now.
