I'm loving the new look offense under Schottenheimer....you know, the one that we use to gain more than 3 yds per play, and actually go longer than the first down marker on 3rd down. BUT....after seeing the Chiefs in action, and how mundane their offense is, can we still blame Paul "can't" Hackett? Or do you blame Herm? I see a huge resemblance to our old offense and the new KC offense. Paulie boy isn't there, and Herm is. So....does Hackett still suck in your eyes?
I still am angry with Hackett and Edwards. They held this team back from the potential it had. Sad really.
When you really think about Penningtons best year it came when we started out 2-5 and we needed to play aggressive. Edwards realized that and told Hackett the same to let Chad play and open up the offense. The results speak for themselves. Now look at Herm in KC without Hackett he still is way conseritive and when Green did play in the first game they ran the old Edwards draw play on third and five on the Bengals ten. In my opinion it was all Edwards call. He was the coach and told Hackett what he wanted. But to stop me from rambling Im glad they are both gone.
Anybody remember the "400 page" playbook that Hackett supposedly had? I wonder whatever happened to it. I'm gonna take a pass on Herm and Hackett only because I don't want to wake up the Hermy/Hackett Fan Club.
I said several times when Hackett was here and I will say it again.. Hackett is one of the smartest guys on the planet in terms of general football theory. His offensive scheme and philosophy are that of great substance and quality. Where he falls short is in his game planning and playcalling. His playbook has some great plays in it and can really keep a defense guessing but his situational tactics are terrible and his playbook lacks versatility for when a defense disrupts the timing. You add in Herm who believes a drive ending w/ a kick is a good thing and has the killer instinct of Mother theresa...and what you have is an offensive nightmare.
Herm chose Hackett because he was in love with the bland, unexciting, undynamic version of Martyball he was weaned on in Kansas City. And Paul Hackett was the 'mastermind' of that fiasco. Make no mistake, Herm hired Hackett because that was exactly what he wanted to see on the field. Hackett wasn't held back from anything. Except maybe from some personnel decisions.
Cman... Their was no Hackett fan club, at least I don't recollect... Now, I was a supporter of Edwards, not to the extent of others, but I was hoping he could deliver with the Jets. I defended him when things looked horrible, but it just did not work out in the end...I liked the guy, but 5 years is plenty to get to AT LEAST a title game and have a record over .500...
Im with you, I supported Herm until the Pitt game, then I reneged, last year took me off the fence with herm. i have always hated Hackett though.
the best thing about Marty ball is that Brian doesn't believe in it! I think Mangini hit a grand slam with hiring him as the OC.
im guessing it was due to the pats winning in week 2. so the more important stat would be that NE is 0-1 with that sig.
