My gut tells me Shonn Greene is going to finish the season strong...These are some bad teams we are facing. Greene might either go above and beyond with his normal play and be asking for alot of money (thus I say peace out) or he resigns with us for a fair deal.

Alot of factors to take in, Powell is playing well (but do we need 2 backs? - I think we do)...If we actually play McElroy we are going to run that rock maybe 40 times.

    What do we do?

I'm not a big fan of Greene. I just don't see the consistent talent there. Not sure he'll ever be a feature back by even these days standards of like a 65/35 split with a back up. That said, the Jets will probably resign him. Hopefully not to something too substantial.

Remember Shonn is approaching 28, closing on over the hill.

Really depends on his market. He's not a special player and running back is an immediate impact position you can fill in the mid-late rounds of the draft. Too many other holes and not enough cap space to invest in a back with a dime a dozen skills, IMO. Playing on a third round contract till now, he's going to look for the most money possible...and it won't take much money at all to price himself out of New York.

I see no reason to bring Greene back, he has been really unimpressive this year, looks slow, flat footed. He's a third down option at best.

Absolutely not, this guy has no cut back ability and leaves 30-50 yards on the field every game. Has no brake away speed or the ability to make anyone miss.

    let him go

I like Greene. He's a serviceable back, hard runner, who protects the football. Nothing flashy, but he wears on defenses and will open lanes for a shifty compliment. Can't get paid like a feature, but solid #2 in the backfield.

He is not much more than a JAG, maybe if he comes back cheap, but would really prefer the team gets someone younger, faster, with more of a chance to break long runs, and who can catch the ball better.

Huh? You want a third down back with speed and pass catching ability. Darren Sproles is a third down back, Leon Washington is a third down back, Danny freakin Woodhead is a third down back.

Greene has stone hands, is "meh" at pass blocking, and isn't very fast.

    He's a good rotational back/power back.

We need to put some focus on getting a true 'premiere' running back on the team. Either a trade, free agency, the draft--whatever!! This team is lacking big time on a RB right now. We went from Curtis, to Jones, to LT. Green and Powell are more #2/3 backs. We need a number 1. I was hoping and praying McKnight could step up this season... No luck there.

RBs are a dime a dozen. Allow him to test the market, then sign him for cheap when he crawls back after not being offered a deal anywhere else.

I'll tell you what though, Bilal Powell looks better each game and boy can that kid block. I saw him blow up Daryl Washington on a rush like he was some scrub.

Mcknight, while fast, scares the shit out of me when he carries the football. That ball is, always, just hanging out there.

We have 4 more weeks of football. I would like to see a steady dose to Powell to find out if we have anything here. Yesterday, it looked like he has some nice side to side action, I saw a pretty spin move too. I need to see the breakaway speed and the hands.

Tony, please just one, only one HB screen game. It's a staple play in the NFL, why don't we ever even try it?

He should only come back at a low price. If anyone else decides to give him a good deal let him walk. I like his style, but he is simply a good, not great, power runner with not much Tao offer on passing downs.

If he's cheap, why not. If Powell gets more carries it just keeps Greene fresh to run over teams late in games

Only if there aren't any better options available. Powell is showing some promise out there, so if we can say go after a Steven Jackson, let Powell be the change of pace back. That would be a better combination than Powell and Greene.

Greene would be better off playing somewhere like Baltimore backing up Ray Rice.

How much did Green-Ellis get in Cinci? That's prob the kind of contract he'll end up with.

Really depends on who the GM is. If Tanny is brought back I'd bet Greene and Keller are too. Less likely if someone else is calling the shots.

Bringing Greene back as a back up for the right price is probably the best option and let Powell take the reigns as the feature back.

The more I see Powell the more I'm surprised they haven't used him more. He's no burner like McKnight but he can get outside the tackles (something Greene can't do) and pick up nice yardage, no home runs, but still nice yardage similar to how martin used to produce. He's not Martin by any stretch but the he can break one like Martin now and then and still produce a decent avg.

The list of FA RB's is poor (Reggie Bush, Mendenhall, Hillis, Felix Jones, Woodhead) and the draft isn't great at either QB or RB positions so the best option at this time seems to be see what Powell can do as the feature guy with Greene as the back up. If it doesn't work after next year blow it up and get a RB in the draft.
