Broncos | Team expected to trade with Lions Mon, 25 Feb 2008 16:27:13 -0800 The Rocky Mountain News reports the Denver Broncos are in deep discussions with the Detroit Lions about trading for DL Shaun Rogers. It is uncertain what the Broncos would give up in return for Rogers, but the deal is expected to be done as early as Monday, Feb. 25, or Tuesday, Feb. 26. ~ ~ just an fyi for those who were/are hopin' we would get him . . .
I'm glad the Jets are staying away from this mess. Rogers might be the best DT in the nfl next year, he might be terrible next year, he might be injured next year. Steer clear. I'd love to get DT help from the JAGUARS. John Henderson or Marcus Stroud. We could give them J-Mac or Coles and Robertson. Those two guys could give a rat's ass about "proper scheme," they just come to play. Too bad the Jags know it.
More skinny on Rogers: "Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Rogers deal gets nearer Reports say Broncos are working hard to obtain nose tackle, who won't be released. Mike O'Hara / The Detroit News INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lions are moving closer to trading Shaun Rogers, with the Broncos figuring most prominently in talks involving the massive nose tackle. The Lions face a deadline in making a deal because of a $1 million bonus payment due if Rogers is on the roster on March 1. President Matt Millen and coach Rod Marinelli have said Rogers will not be released, and they want to get fair value if Rogers is traded. Reports out of Denver late Monday said the Broncos were working aggressively to acquire Rogers. Millen could not be reached for comment but said earlier Monday a number of teams were interested in acquiring Rogers. "There has been a lot of interest in Shaun," Millen said. "Like we said from the start, we'll listen to everybody who wants to talk. "Shaun's a good player, and you don't give good players away. You try to keep your good players. If somebody wants to talk seriously, great. I'll talk to them." Rogers, 28, has played seven seasons in Detroit. He was drafted in the second round out of Texas in 2001 and made the Pro Bowl in 2004 and '05. His play fell off in the second half of last season, largely because he was overweight and out of condition. If Rogers remains with the Lions this year, he will be assigned a weight and will be fined if he is above the limit, Millen said last week. Rogers was not assigned a weight limit last year. Cornerback Fernando Bryant was released Monday after four seasons with the Lions. He signed as a free agent in 2004. Injuries limited Bryant's playing time. He played all 16 games in 2007 and had his only two interceptions as a Lion. He missed 26 of 48 games the previous three years. The Lions are preparing for the start of free agency Friday but already have started talking to players who are available." Looks like a deal will be done by midnight Friday of this week
Rumor going around that the Jets will be on part of a 3 way deal with the Lions and Broncos. Whether it's just a fan rumor or not I don't know, but it says that the Jets will send Robertson and a 5th to the Broncos, the Broncos will send Foxworth and a 2nd to the Lions, and the Lions will send Rogers to the Jets. Take it for what it's worth, saw it posted on JI.

Now that's getting value for Robertson, a guy who fits our system 10x less than Vilma. Yeah, we'll have to cross our fingers, but if the guy comes to play, Rogers is a f'ing monster. And if we get Rogers, I would bet there is a very good chance Vilma gets a 1 year shot with a real NT. Not happy about losing a 5th in the deal, but hell, it's just a 5th. I really hope this is true.
Yeah, but Abraham was the only player involved in that trade. It was a swap of draft picks. Foxworth, Rogers, and Robertson are all involved. You just don't see that too often. That's a great trade for the Jets in my opinion if Rogers plays up to his potential.

Yep, that sure sounds like the defining character traits of Mangini's prototypical guy alright. PFT calls this a product of the "Turd Watch". Just because a guy is large and overweight, why should he have an attitude? After playing for Detroit for EIGHT YEARS, why do you think there's anything left there of any redeeming value? Mr. Rogers is a mystery FA to me, I guess.
His play probably only fell off because he couldn't keep up with that scheme. In a 3-4 he will get a bonus for gaining wieght. lol A two time pro-bowler, abeit two years removed, for Robertson and a pick would be fair IMHO. Fat guy in the middle. Love it.
Mr. Rogers doesn't strike me as smart enough to play for Mangini. How come it took him eight years to quit on the Lions (that is if he actually decided to do it)...?
Today on Rotoworld: The Rocky Mountain News have backed off their report that Shaun Rogers should be a Denver Bronco by Friday. Neither the Denver Post or NFL Network, usually leaders on Broncos news, put the report up. Now papers in both cities say that other teams continue to make trade pitches. The Lions are seeking a second or third-round pick as compensation. The Broncos could also pursue Dewayne Robertson.
This deal would be great for us. I appreciate DRob, but Rogers fits us more than DRob does by a longshot.
