First year introducing a wavier wire, revolving based on weekly standings. (yuck). Trades are free but wavier claims or picking up FA's are limited to one a week and cost just under half the weekly entry fee. We pay off based on total scores, not team vs. team. So consistancy does not pay out as well as peak and valleys totals being equal. Play: QB, 2RB, 2WR, Flex, TE, K, D Scoring: PassTD=6, 25 PassYd=1, 10run/recYd=1, Int=-3. Defense is Scoring only, No PPR. This is an old league that I am new to (3rd year) been going on since 90's. BUT EVERYONE WAS UPSET with this transaction. EVERYONE gave me a hard time during Monday Night's Game... Is this really that awful of a trade for me? Appreciate sharing your knowledge so I can learn and move on. Keading (K) -out- D2: Minnesota Alright, so being a dynasty keeper league we come into draft night with most of our starting line up. I dropped B. Lloyd to keep Freeman and Ryan who I thought were running close dispite the same bye weeks for trades. My two starting WR also shared bye weeks... Even with a gap to fill I passed on decent vets for rookie prospects. A.J. Green, 7th pick, Cam Newton @ 14th. (no snake draft, been in dreaded 4th spot). A bold move, but with 80 off the board already I wanted fresh meat early this year. After the draft I evaluated and wanted to trade off Ryan or Freeman... So I started (and ended) with Peyton's fallen. This is where I hope most of the hate came from. Look at his team, he had his run and the others wanted blood. Either that or I really F#@$'d up like they've been telling me. Anyways this is was my reasoning: Isn't trading up worth a little something, something? All Day and Twitch still have a decent window. Load the box on um...on their teams they still get the ball. Cam Newton had only played his first week at this point, that's where I can see buyer's remorse, now, but... Till one RB gets hurt on redraft/next year I can pick up more players @ QB/WR to improve prospecting chances there. With trading Newton I also inherited a bye week problem, (part of the trade) which will have to be addressed. Actually I HIGHLIGHTED it, Fitzpatrick was picked up purposefully this week. I also have to address my single kicker, held out too long getting an 11th bye week so I had to eat it, and will pay to pick one up this year... Could have been K:smile:eading'd Ryan/White were a package deal, I obviously down graded on Cutler/Williams who in my view were never really paired anyways, esp. with Roy out right now. Were Bowe's 15 TD's a fluke? I did not watch many KC games. I thought Nelson was a decent pick up, Rodgers don't give a shit. And even with last years easy schedule, I think Tampa will get better. Am I just trying to convince myself I didn't mess up? Let me have it, I want to know what ya think so I get better. Only lesson learned so far: the league wished I would have let him bleed to death by Manning's surgical knife. Now they want me after it's been dulled!!!
Basically, in my view, you went all in to get Chris Johnson and now have a crazy AP/CJ2k duo. Ballsy move. Ryan>Cutler White>>Bowe or Jordy obviously Roy Will is useless. But... CJ>>>Thomas CJ>>Bradshaw. The bummer is that you included Newton in the deal, who could the best player in the deal as soon as next year. 22-years-old, bigger stronger (but not quite as fast) Michael Vick. I'm a huge CJ fan and have owned him for his whole career...but that price would be a little too steep for me.
Yes, you got the shit end of the trade. Even worse, though, you're in an 8 man league. And your benches are bigger than your rosters. Both of those should have been dealbreakers for joining the league.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been hearing Rockefella. Grossly overpaid. I guess the lesson to be learned is to never to trade prospects till they get to play. Still early but if people thought Newton was going to be chucking the ball like he has been, he never would have lasted till the 14th spot (94th). In five weeks D. Cordinator's will have their plans in place, so it "may cool off". Ok, so I'm still trying... Damage control time, ehh?
It is a ten team league (Overlooked that important part) we protect 8 players each draft, and start 8 players and one Def. Unless I missed something. Thanks for the input IJ. If you can, explain benches > rosters. I'm here to learn. *Note: I edited the OP because it was misleading. Not that it may affect the bottom line.
Misread on my phone. Large benches make prioritization less important and allow shitty players to luck into better players through sheer volume.
Trading Newton, Ryan and White in a dynasty keeper league was not smart. These guys have a lot of value beyond this season. You are really relying on your stud running backs not breaking down soon, which is not a smart move. Adrian Peterson takes a ton of punishment each season. He could be out of the league at 32. Chris Johnson has struggled since Kevin Mawae left. He is not a smart back, so without spectacular blocking, he can't make big runs every week. The Titans have a new coach and are rebuilding which spells disaster for the starting running back who was already struggling to recapture his breakout season form. Chris Johnson is most likely to end up just like Shaun Alexander. The biggest problem with the trade is it is only good for you short term, but excellent for him short and long term. QBs and WRs are the best keepers in a dynasty league. RBs come and go every couple years. Also, this is a bad year to have a running back in your flex. Between RBBC teams and all the gaudy passing numbers, they just don't have enough value. You need to have a WR in that spot.
I have always struggled with using WR's in the flex. That said, I agree with your comment Nick. Especially so far this year, I hope Shonn steps it up from another slow start, but with our O line situation I feel the other Green might move into that slot. Appreciate the info, I messed up but it happens... At least I know what I need to work on improving now.
