Maybe we already have the answer to CB with someone on our roster...

    Ras-I Dowling anyone?

The kid was nearly a 1st rd pick at #33. I remember there was talk about him possibly being taken in the 1st. He is still only 25 and looking at his college highlights, the kid has unmistakable talent. Maybe a late bloomer and he has taken a leap in his development. Maybe some wishful thinking but, nonetheless, anyone that is on our roster has to be there for a reason and contribute at some capacity. ( and then Clyde Gates pops into my head..ugh)

I was quite jealous of the Patriots pick at the time but the guy has been made out of glass. When a player has been out of NFL action of that long, I'm always unsure about what original athleticism remains - at CB, he'll be in one of the most exposed positions if his fitness isn't up to scratch.

Luckily for him, like Footballgod214 states, he can always fall back on his lucrative literary career if he doesn't make the final roster.

Dowling is probably closer to being a turd in the catbox.

I'm still thinking we pick up someone after cuts in TC.
    Along with a draft pick.

I believe one of those corners will be good dependable players. I don't think we're as bad at the CB position as most people think.

I doubt Ras-I Dowling will be a diamond in the rough, but I think Darrin Walls could be - if given more of an opportunity

Ras is a very intelligent corner who has lost a lot of his physical abilities due to injuries and being injured for so long.
He was a really good depth pick up and as far as current skill set he is very comparable to Darrin Walls.

I still think our number two will come from this draft but if he doesnt expect K Will and Dimitri Patterson to share some form of rotation
    slot and outside duties.

Isn't A. Berry still on the roster as well? A similar guy drafted high plagued by injuries.

Yea you're right, Free Agent. Guess he got released some time this offseason or did they cut him after putting him on the IR last season?

His contract expired. I wouldn't be surprised to see him signed when he is medically cleared.
He was having a good camp until he had the knee.
    might have beaten out millner.

I get the feeling he's here for depth at CB and could match up against TE's as well. Scouting reports are all over the place on him.. some say he doesn't bite on double move while others say he can't stay with shifty receivers (hello Cro), some say he can stay with speed guys down the field while others say he doesn't play up to his measured speed. Time will..

Well he was an inexpensive CB who got cut this quickly so I'm really not holding out any hope at all for him. Dennis Thurman is a good secondary coach but if Dowling becomes even a role player it's a real coup for the Jets considering the Pats dumped him.

From your lips, or keyboard strokes in this situation to Gods ears. No matter how you look at it, even with the strongest of sunshiner green tinted sunglasses we still need a #2 cb.

Yes, maybe Wilson can finally play up to his #1 draft pick status and play well for us as our #2 cb, but I doubt it. Nothing in his NFL history has shown that he can get the job done outside of being a slot corner, and lets be real he's not even a good slot corner just average.

Guys like Walls and others on the current roster have shown flashes, but are we really comfortable throwing guys like that in the starting rotation based solely off of flashes? I know I'm not.

So we either need to draft another cb, sign a vet that gets cut in training camp from another team or trade for a cb. All three scenarios pose problems.

With drafting a cb you have the rookie learning curve, as well as using a high draft pick 2 years in a row on a cb.

With signing a cut vet your getting a guy that has to come in and learn Rex's complicated defense with very little time and practice. And if they're being cut it's obviously for a reason, they're not as good as they once were.

And trading for a cb costs us a draft pick(s), and again you're asking someone to come in and learn Rex's defense with very little time or practice.

The first part of our schedule is brutal, we're going up against teams with good to elite wr's and qb's. So unless our o can go score for score with them, we're going to need another cb.

We might be able to pass with those guys if we upgrade our Safety position, Whether by development or addition.

Why is every Jet practice squad player a "diamond in the rough"?..

Wrong question....the appropriate question to be asked is Why ISN'T every Jets practice squad player a "diamond in the rough?" After all...is that not what the practice squad is for...to find those guys that have so much potential but need teaching, experience and "seasoning?"
