I'm willing to "visit" some of those Brazillian babes.... in the name of science of course! but if you ask me, they have it backwards & Brazillian Ass DNA should be imported here.... but i'll be too old to reap the bennies at this point Shouldve started that plan 25 years ago...
No kiddin Stinky. Some of the most beautiful women on Earth. Rio used to be on my bucket list. Then I turned 60...
Ha... Roger that True story.... quite a few years ago (in college era) I became pretty good friends with a dude from Brazil who came here to go to school.... and eventually his girlfriend did too, but like me they settled here. Well eventually they were engaged and were talking about the wedding they were going to have in Brazil (Rio), and if Im coming if they invite me, as theyre planning way in advance since it would be in Brasil. "HELL YEAH!" and she starts showing pictures of all here friends and stuff, and my buddy was trying to nod and hint without giving away to much to the mrs.... Well..... She ended up breaking up the engagement.... and eventually I think she married a doctor in Ponte Vedra and he moved to Puerto Rico, married some other chick and we lost touch.....and worst part of the story.......no Brazillian brides maids for me
Opportunity missed... I can only imagine what her buddies looked like. Probably resembled a Magazine spread. You don't think your buddy started poaching the Queen's friends...?
Tall and tan and young and lovely The girl from Ipanema goes walking and When she passes, each one she passes goes "Ahhh". When she walks, she's like a samba That swings so cool and sways so gentle that When she passes, each one she passes goes "Ahhh".
(Waters Of March is my favorite) Haven't heard this song in years.. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
The great João Gilberto and unbelievably great Stan Getz playing a tune by Antonio Carlos Jobim - nobody does it better.
Not to pull the, I got one better story but... Back when I first moved to Florida I was living in Broward County and a friend met up with this Danish Au Pair. She had a dozen or so Scandinavian girlfriends between the ages of 17-19 all of which had most of the weekends off and wanted to get away from their brats that they watched all week. Being I had the biggest van and biggest apartment of all my friends, and no girlfriend, I would drive around on Friday picking them all up to crash at my apartment for the weekend, That was a nice run, which lasted around 9 months, and then my company transferred me up to Sanford. Scandinavian girls have no hang ups with casual sex, damn I miss my 20's. Sorry to take thread this away from the Brazilian girls.
I of course remember "The Girl from Ipanema" from when it was a hit in 1964, but my detailed knowledge of Gilberto, Jobim, and Getz came later than that. I had a Brazilian student about 20 years ago who gave me the Verve Jazz Masters 13 Jobim CD when he graduated, telling me "This is the music of my country." That CD (which doesn't actually include "The Girl from Ipanema") got me interested in bossa nova in general (and hence Gilberto and Jobim) as well as Getz in particular. Acquiring Getz CDs was one of my two entries into jazz at the time (West Coast jazz in particular), the other being my son taking up the clarinet in school (which led me to Benny Goodman and small group swing). Roughly 1200 CDs later I listen to jazz all the time (I have more than 1000 hours of jazz on my computer and iPad), and Getz is my all-time favorite sax player, along with similar players like Paul Desmond and Bud Shank (I have autographed memorabilia of all three on the wall above my computer in my home office, and Benny Goodman's autograph too).
One of these days, we're gonna have to get together. I've got quite a bit of Jazz on my Server. Everything from main stream (Coltrane, Blakey, etc) to West coast (Metheny, Lorber, Loeb, Azymuth, Yellowjackets) to name a few. Good to chat with a kindred spirit!
I have plenty of bop like Coltrane and Blakey (and Miles and Dizzy), but it's not my favorite - much more Getz, Brubeck, Desmond, Mulligan, Chet Baker, Zoot Sims, and of course Lester Young (the connection back to swing). You mentioned Metheny, and I am a BIG jazz guitar fan - Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Jim Hall, Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Lenny Breau.
