DeAngelo Hall doesn't sound like a man who worries the Redskins will be picked apart by New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez on Sunday at FedEx Field. Though the Pro Bowl cornerback concedes Sanchez's playoff résumé makes him worthy of respect, Hall doesn't rank him among the stronger players at his position. “I’d say he’s middle of the pack. Definitely not the worst in the league. He’s a capable quarterback,” Hall told The Washington Post in Thursday's edition. “He’s taken them to a couple AFC Championship (Games), so he definitely knows how to win the big games.” Hall said film study reveals a player who can be forced into mistakes. “He doesn’t take as many chances as much as he just gets confused some times,” Hall said. “A lot of times he just comes out and stares a receiver down, tries to throw him the ball. He puts it on those guys to make plays. They haven’t made as many plays this year as they have in previous years.” There's nothing groundbreaking here from Hall. Jets fans who have watched the QB during his up-and-down season would likely have a similar scouting report (with a few expletives thrown in for good measure). That said, there's bulletin board material here for Rex Ryan if he chooses to use it. This assuming locker rooms still have bulletin boards. Hopefully this gets a little fire up Sanchez's Ass...
The thing that separates people on Sanchez is that some of us think he is still on the upswing while others seem to think this is it.
If people thought Eli's third season was it then he was a below average QB unlikely to turn into a star. Same for Drew Brees and a bunch of other QB's. Playing QB in the NFL is hard under the best circumstances and the circumstances have not been all that good for Sanchez this season.
I have to agree with him. Especially the part where he says Sanchez stares a receiver down. He needs to have better awareness in the pocket and scan his options. Either way I hope this gets Sanchez to play better.
You're right, but like UKK said, he's still on the upswing. Right now, as of this moment, based on everything I've seen in Sanchez, he's an average QB, and Hall's blunt stance is dead on. That doesn't mean he can improve, perhaps quite quickly, like Eli did that season. He has shown flashes, but he just has maddening bouts of inconsistency.
I know. I wonder if he's secretly a Jets fan and/or posts here. I'll bet he thinks the Jets should fire Schotty.
If Hall said that and didn't name any QB, he'd be talking about 95% of every 3rd year QB in history. Groundbreaking.
You'd think Hall was a member of this forum with those statements. He's probably only watched film from this season and already can see the tendencies. I think the CS and FO see them too but because Sanchez basically is still a kid, they really have no choice but to keep gassing this kid's ego up and hope one day the light bulb comes on. Just like the rest of us.
