When the Jets first signed him I was listening to an interview he did with ESPN and he struck me as someone who has great leadership qualities. I think this would be an excellent addition to the coaching staff if Garrard is up for it.
I would be very happy with this. I mean this was basically going to be his role anyway, but now we dont have to pay him and we save a roster spot.
Is there anything to support that he would be good in this role? I understand that he never coached, but why everyone just assumes he will be a good QB mentor?
Amazing. Every report from everyone coming out now is the complete opposite that was originally released. Every person who has come in contact with Smith is absolutely amazed by the guys attentiveness and hard working attitude. Just adds to how much bullshit those original articles were.
I'm sure there was a little bit of truth to the criticism. It wouldn't be said by mainstream media members if it were just completely out of the blue. Nawrocki had it, Sal Pal had it, a few other people had it. But it's all completely irrelevant now, and it will give Geno a huge chip on his shoulder going forward. Not expecting Garrard to say anything negative about the Jets, but if he didn't like Geno or didn't like the organization, he probably would not consider returning.
none of it was true, none of it speculation isn't the word I'll use, it was all fabricated bush league
interesting..... i guess garrard wowed them in his short time or the QB intern pool is real shallow these days.
I was OK with Garrard and all - jersey boy, etc. But when was David Garrard ever a great NFL QB? Am I missing something here? Let's list the great seasons and stats he put up. Go!
i think this might mean the cs is ok with the qb situation letting sanchez and smith battle it out and really still want that veteran presence to help the two young qbs out (sanchez is still a young qb...) its not so much that garrard is so great, its that he is a man who has spent a lot of time in this league and has a good deal of experience to pass on the the younger qbs.
OK, I get that. However, as someone else has pointed out, why not Chad? It just seems odd to me that a QB who was here for what, two days of one spring camp is being talked about as a valued member of a Jets coaching staff like he ran this offense successfully for us. Don't we have a new successful QB coach in place?
is your complaint really that they are offering this to garrard and not chad? maybe garrard commands respect from these guys in a way that the cs really likes. as a coaching intern hes more or less there for moral support. they dont need him to teach the system to these guys, just to help keep their heads in the right places.
