    I've changed my mind

Although I feel Cowher will frustrate me because of his ultra conservative approach, I wouldn't be against him and a personnel guy coming in AS LONG as Tannenbaum keeps a prominent position in the organization. He is terrific.

Note to the board: You don't need to start a thread to say the same thing everyone else is.

No offense Salz. We're just losing alot of threads on the first page for no reason...90% of the threads here say the same thing right now.

I'm not sure Woody would be able to find his way to the bathroom without Tanny around, he is not going anywhere. That doesn't mean we can't get someone Cowher wants to run the football operations though.

With all these articles, reports and interviews taking place, it is really becoming clear that the Jets want Cowher and Cowher wants the Jets.

#1 - If Cowher didn't want the Jets he would have made a definitive statement like he did to the Browns. This nonsense that he "hasn't been spoken to" is just posturing. If the Jets were out of the running, we would know it by now.

#2 - Cowher has family ties now to the NY area after working up here for CBS. He can get a nice place in south Jersey and still be close to family ties in NC and NYC.

#3 - Of the teams out there, now that Cleveland is out of the running, the Jets are the only team that runs a 3-4 defense and have most of the personnel in place to do it now. Is Cowher going to Detroit? No... Is Cowher going to Oakland? No... The Jets are not being played by Cowher because there is no other current opportunity to play against. It is either the Jets or wait until 2010.

#4 - Because the other teams are out of the running, the Jets are bidding against 2010. What do I mean? The Jets aren't bidding against themselves they are bidding against teams that MAY need a HC in 2010. That actually hurst Cowher more than the Jets - he now must make a decision whether he wants the Jets or wants to wait another year. If he waits another year, would there be a better situation in place? Only Cowher can make that decision.

#5 - The whole GM nonsense is just that. Tannenbaum is a cap guy. Guess what, after almost 2 decades of FA and cap issues, those guys are a dime a dozen. If he wants to bring in his own trusted personnel guy, then make it happen Woody. Promote Tannenbaum to some senior VP position for cap issues and move along. Tannenbaum's expertise is executing contracts, cap issues, and trades NOT picking the players.

#6 - Cowher is the best coach currently available on the market. IF you hire another coordinator with no HC experience, then the Jets should have just kept Mangini. The only other possibility is Marty Schottenheimer. Other than that, Billick & Tice are just ho-hum retreads.

#7 - As with everything in life, this will all come down to money. As it is either the Jets or 2010, we should expect Woody to throw somewhere between $45-50 million over 5 years to Cowher to make the decision a no-brainer. Through in the round trips with the corporate jet and we have a deal. Everything else is just posturing.

Finally, some may advocate looking at Bill Parcells or Josh McDaniels. I am against those moves. It is time for the NY Jets to move on from this whole Parcells-Bellichicken-Patriots issue. The best way to eliminate that is by bringing in Cowher. Start fresh and move on - which is exactly what will happen with Brett Favre if Cowher becomes the coach. The Jets will get a 7th rd pick in 2010, free up $13 million in cap room and Favre can watch the NFL from his sofa next year. Woody and Tannenbaum will "say" they want Favre back, but that ain't going to happen.

As for the QB situation - well Cowher did win games with Tommy Maddox, Kordell Stewart and Neil O'Donnell. And like any great HC, he finally won the big game once he was provided with a franchise QB in Big Ben.

The bottomline is that there are too many reasons on both sides for this not to happen.
It is just a matter of time until a deal is reached.

I agree with your assessment. This deal will get done, it is just a matter of time.
