Every year its the same thing,it feels like a pipe dream every year to win the division .....I don't ever even think about it realisticly every season.NE finished 12-4 we were 10-6 how close are we to finally doing it?Forget about crazy playoff scenarios and win and get in games what will it take to finally win the AFC East.We have only won the divsion twice since 1969!!!!twice in 47 years!!!!lol how sad is that. Can we finally dethrone the Pats?

Great thread, winning the division is something we should consider doing in the future.

I really hope the Patriots lose Saturday. If they do, they'll have finished 2-5 in their last 7 games with Brady on the verge of turning 39 years old. Could be the beginning of the end, at least to the point where we can go into a season with hopes of winning the division, y'know, like a normal NFL team.

Start Geno next season and we win the AFC east. Lol. Jk. But serious. I don't see any reason why we can't next season. I think the Jets are back where people will want to play here. Just like in Rex's first few seasons. Plus I think the Jets are on the right track now.

Probably wont happen till we find a franchise QB somewhere or Brady retires.

Brady retires or gets hurt for a season. After that we'll have as good a shot as anyone at winning our division. Finding the franchise QB is less likely unless we get lucky. If you're thinking like Brady/Peyton/Brees level the odds are probably 20% or less we find that guy at any point.

The Patriots have been in existence as long as the Jets and they've only had one guy who was a clear generational franchise QB.

I can tell you this with 100% certainty - if we win the AFC East, we are going to the playoffs! We should do that next year.

True, but even before that, we had Kelly and Marino standing in the way. We can't wait until other teams suck, the best way to win regularly is to build a great team, around a decent QB. Kinda like this year.

Build a good team, hope to find a QB.

Age caught up with Manning, it will catch up with Brady too. That could be as soon as next season.
We are a definite chance of winning the division next year if we can keep the key players at the Jets.

Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan and Todd Bowles just don't get it. Winning the division is a good idea. It guarantees you a playoff spot and a home game. Someone should also suggest that they finish as the #1 seed in the AFC too. That would secure them a 1st Round Bye AND home field advantage throughout the entire playoffs. Someone should bring this up to Bowles one day this Summer.

I have posted about this as well. Question is HOW do you win Division?: With upfront wins against Rex and Belli

And you cant just count on Shady getting old. Garrapolo may be holding that clipboard a few more years for all I know. Its much more than that its examining weaknesses/strenghths of the entire team...do the same for T Taylor and theBills

IMO Bowles and Mac must do a thorough analysis of how to beat/why we lose to NE and now Buffalo

You structure your FA and Draft according to what you need to destroy these two pains in our side...eg edge rusher or added RB (whatever it takes)

The players you get prob help you win against a lot of other teams on schedule

Obviously,The point is why are we so cursed to only win the division twice in 47 years. We couldn't win it even when Brady wasn't around. As a Jets fan winning the division is the same odds as winning Powerball

The Best chances of winning would be to sweep the AFC East,It just seems like the coaching staff concedes it every year

Tom Brady will be 39 years old when the season starts next year. Can he continue playing at his current MVP level? Probably. Can he do it at 40? Maybe. Can he do it at 41? That's less clear.

When Qbs drop off due to age, they drop off quickly.

As soon as Brady drops off, regardless of what Belicheck does to deal with the situation (trade him, cut him, keep him playing, and so on), we will have an opportunity to win the division. That opportunity may come next year, but it also may not come until 2018.

Winning the division means jack shit. 4 division winners lost last weekend and guaranteed atleast 1 more will lose this weekend.

So yeah its "nice" to win a division , get a home playoff game etc etc. But really unless you have the bye week and home field throughout , it doesnt mean that much.

A huge stumbling block is how FA is structured. We're gonna lose guys on our vaunted DLine.

The window is so small for aspiring teams that you kinda have to give several years lead time before you can close the gap with the upper echelon talent in your division. In our case, Although NE is aging, the other two teams are doing their best to improve just like we are sooo, its not only about beating NE, its about beating Buf and Mia as well as winning games outside our div. There's no real formula other than "stacking chips" both in talent and leadership. We can't wait for Brady to fade while the rest of the NFL improves right along with us.

I would think that concentrating on the BPA@need position would be the prudent way to both patch talent holes and improve quickly. The trick is to improve faster than everyone else in our division and then worry about the NEP.

It may be heresy to say this, but I think its time to draft for need first, then worry about winning the division.

Before Brady they had Bledsoe. While not a "generational QB" he was one of the best in the NFL at the time, and did lead them to a SB... He was better than anyone the Jets have had in the last 30 years. Some teams (Colts, 49ers, Packers) are just blessed with above average QBs. The Jets have a better chance at wining the division with Brady's potential downslide than finding a top tier QB... I look at it like when Jordan was in the NBA. No one was winning during his peak. It took retirement for another team to rise up...

Our division has had 4 HOF QBs in it over the last 30 plus years. Marino, Kelly, Manning, now Brady . The law of averages says sooner or later it gotta be our turn.
