By KAREN CROUSE Published: February 10, 2007 pro football FOR COLES, A PRO BOWL TOO FAR Jets receiver Laveranues Coles was at home in Jacksonville, Fla., around 4:30 p.m. when he found out he had made his second Pro Bowl. The trick was to get Coles, who was to replace the Colts? Marvin Harrison, to Honolulu in time for today?s kickoff at 6 p.m. Eastern. It is more than 5,000 miles from Florida to Oahu, and it took Chicago place-kicker Robbie Gould nearly 12 hours to fly from Miami to Honolulu earlier in the week. Coles, who had 91 receptions for 1,098 yards and 6 touchdowns, checked into commercial flights and contacted a friend who has a private plane before determining this was one route that was beyond his physical capabilities. Randall Liu, an N.F.L. spokesman, confirmed last night that the league had been unable to work out a travel arrangement that would have gotten Coles and his gear to the game on time. KAREN CROUSE
I guess he cared enough to call the airlines, which apparently puts him way ahead of most players. It is painfully obvious that this game is a joke. They should just have postseason honors and be done with it. There was a time when a player getting a free trip to Hawaii was a big deal, but it isn't any more. I can only assume that sponsors in Honolulu give enough money to the NFL to make it worth their while.
Everyone is saying the game is a joke, but it's actually a lot of fun if you sit and watch it. It's back and forth action, just like the NBA and NHL All Star games...not a lot of defense, but a lot of offense. The main poin here is that the honor of making the Pro Bowl is not a joke, because it is the primary resume item that HOF voters look at it when deciding who's in and whose out. Maybe alternates should be invited to go to Hawaii. Hopefully, this Pro Bowl invite counts on Coles resume. He's not a HOF candidate at this point, but if the Jets improve the way we're all anticipating they will, and can win a Super Bowl, he might have the numbers by the end of this career.
i dont understand why they waited so long to invite him to pro bowl. why did harrison wait so long to pull out? and if he pulled out with plenty of time they should have made sure they got him up in time.
Yeah, who has the best offensive line, running back, and their style of the option or wish-bone... I know some HS have some downfield passing, some have it 60-40, just a team who likes to pass and have the WR's. But most of it is the run game. That's not exactly fun to me, watching a QB, RB and backup RB rush for 375 yards combined.
true, watching my city's teams play the last 5 years was like watching a college team play...we won 3 straight state championships and went again the 4th year but lost, anyway, even the other teams look pretty good, in Central Jerey, football is a BIG thing here, not like in parts of North Jersey and other places, there you can tell kids are just playing because their parents want them to, up here in jersey, NY, and Parts of pennsylvania, those guys can play some ball
my town hasn't been a passing town, they just continuosly have rushers getting over 1000 yards, Kevin Woolfolk had 2,000, but i don't know where he is now though.... http://www.piscatawayfootball.com/ thats my city's official site, look at the records and stuff, we have a history of rushers, not much passing.... http://www.hssmtv.com/Football%20Players/Kevin%20Woolfolk.htm this is the woolfolk guy, tell me you wouldn't have given this guy a scholarship, he was 5'10" 227
when was it known marvin wouldnt be at the game? i couldve sworn i heard a few guys like urlacher werent going on monday. the nfl guys are getting slightly retarded if they are trying to coordinate things like this as late as this. goodell needs to recheck the pro bowl reserves prior to the day of the game....
hey now.....north jersey has some HS pride for the kids playing football. weequaiq won states this year. (NEWARK)
you live down in piscataway? tell me about anthony davis please.....i was souped when he committed to RU, but dont know much about him.
That stinks that he couldn't get to the game, but congratulations to Lav for making his 2nd Pro Bowl. This was really deserving for his play this year.
I saw Harrison practice on the NFL Network on Wed and Thurs. He either got hurt or had an emergency where he had to leave. I wonder what happened?
he isn't exactly the smartest apple in the bunch, in short, HE IS RETARDED, gets like straight Ds but the last MP he was able to raise his grades, he is massive but not fat in anyway at all watsoever, the guy is solid muscle, a teacher at the nearby Middle School told me, he was 6'2" 240 pounds in the 8th grade, and the guy is fast, there was one play where he chased down a reverse play and caused a fumble
they had a spot on him in the star ledger, and they said he got B's and C's......they did say he was that big in 8th grade....and he can dunk a basketball at his size. wirghs as much as shaq.... from what i saw hes 6'5 and 330 comming into this year. they said he has GREAT speed, where he runs the 40 in 4.9, which, for his size is pretty remarkable. they had him run with the WRs and RBs when they were getting punished and routinely beat them...... i thought you said you went to all the games and stuff....figured youd have some other info....
