I think the key words their are "so far". Three catches for 19 yards. Not a bad first half for only really getting involved on that final drive. Seems like he's seeing a lot more field time today with J-Co's hamstring injury. If you notice he's spending a lot of time with Sanchez and Shotty on the sidelines tonight. Needless to say, once J-Co is 100%; Clowney will be back on the bench except for those four receiver sets.
I'll give ya that. Plus, there was one play he was in on before that last drive where if he would've broke outside instead of inside, it would've broke for a touchdown. Just needs better vision and awareness. That'll come with play time hopefully.
Clowney seems to be filling in for the injured Cotch. I know he's on the field, but since Sanchez is avoiding him, I'm guessing he's pretty injured.
Clowney is kind of a one-trick pony when you think about overall wideout skillsets, but I still like him for his hands and his speed. He's just not physical enough to be a starter, at least on a team with Jerricho and Edwards. I like him a lot better as the 3rd WR option in a 3WR set than I do Brad Smith, that is for sure - mostly lined up wide with J-Co in the slot. That opens things up for Keller and J-CO underneath at this point. Teams will have to respect his presence on the field after this game.
I wish we could have talked Mangini into taking Clowney and us keeping Stucky. He has Ratliff and could have reunited the golden 3rd string TD combo. Against first stringers Clowney seems a little over his head.
From the Jets Via Twitter- "New roster out shows Danny Woodhead with a new uni #, 83. He's still on practice squad but working today at WR. More from Rex later" Interesting, I'm not going to compare him to Wayne Chrebet don't worry. Just thought I'd put this in as it doesn't deserve its own thread just yet.
That is an interesting bit of news. Nothing that will affect the Jets right now, but giving Woodhead a WR # indicates that they are considering him as a slot receiver. Kid is tough enough. Probably won?t be until next year until this plays out one way or the other. Would be an interesting WR set for the speed, Edwards, Clowney, Woodhead. Wow that would be a track meet
I love the idea, I hope it works out. That more from Rex later comment seems there might be more info on the news. If were down J-co and Smith this weekend he might give em try, doubtful but maybe.
I keep talking about this with anyone who will listen. Imagine Clowney and Edwards on the outside, with JCo in the slot, Keller at TE, and Leon in the backfield. How does a defense account for all of them? It would leave Sanchez open to a blitz, but Leon would be there for the dump and run. Even if you switch out Keller for a TE blocker or TRich, that's still a lot of weapons an opposing D has to respect. And the mismatches on Cotchery would be sweet to watch.
They can be accounted for by pressuring the hell out of Sanchez the same way the Jets pressured the hell out of Brees. It's a bad matchup for a read-and-react defense, though. I like the way the offense is shaping up.
I didn't see him as a WR but whatever works. He could be a diamond in the rough, mights as well try it.
