The Daily News posted a list today of the QBs with the lowest QB ratings (minimum of 224 attempts) in a season since 2000. Our boy Clemens was in the bottom 7. Here are the names on that list - it's a who's who of QB busts. Akili Smith-Bengals-2000 Andrew Walker-Raiders- 2006 Ryan Leaf-Chargers-2000 Kordell Stewart-Bears-2003 Kyle Orton-Bears-2005 Joey Harrington-Lions-2002 Kellen Clemens-Jets-2007 So for those of who think that QB's need time to delvelop and want to compare Clemens' first season to Palmer, Manning, Elway and others . . . .think again. I think this list is far more telling. QB ratings may be overrated, but this list shows that those with very poor ratings are very poor QBs, young and inexperienced or not. Clemens' season reminded me very much of Nagle's first season. A great pre season followed by a good first game and then nothing after that but a big arm with no head for the position. I just don't think he has it. I would keep Pennington.
and according the qb rating pennington is the greatest qb of all time so you must really want to hold onto him.
Clemens was in bad company, no question. He had a horrible OL and a second rate receiving core for more then a few games, and even when his best WR was in he wasn't completely healthy. Yea, definitely bad company.
Also, not the greatest run defense or offense on the planet either. I am with you on the response though. Statistics have been known to not tell the truth at times. If our line was decent - capable of protection and generating a running game, we had 1 true fast WR, and were much better at stopping the run; and then Clemens put up the same numbers I would be saying that he will never work out, too.
If John Elway played with our offensive line, and receivers, he would also have ended up with one of the lowest qb ratings of all time, also.
In all fairness to Browning Nagle who everyone loves to step all over every chance they get, Nagle's line sucked pretty bad in 92 and that team was a injury disaster, by years end no one was left from opening day except Nagle, and he may have been hurt to, anyway, Nagle got a crap hand delt to him, when the team got talent that offseason and rebuilt the O-line, they gave that team to Boomer, so had Nagle got the start in 1993 I think he may have faired ok, we'll never know now of course.
Not for nothing, but in those stats were WR drops included? I for one liked more than I disliked what I saw with Clemens. Is he where we all wanted him to be this year? Definitely not, we've got to get an O Line to truely evaluate what we have.
Clemens would have at least gotten us into OT against the ravens if it weren't for McCareins. Professional catches don't come any easier than that throw. There were a host of others spanning quite a few other players, too, but with McCareins it was multiple times.
I hate when people keep using the "Clemens had a horrible line" excuse to defend his poor play. I'm pretty sure that those players on that list didn't have the best of lines either.
you are right he didnt look great at times, but got us 2 more wins than chad and played against better defensive teams than chad, also had some key drops like the baltimore game which might have given him alittle more confidence, last game 65 yard pass on the money dropped and also did you notice the team can run better with him instead of chad, defenses had to respect deep threat even though bs rarely called it and the line never gave him time. I am sick of watching chad float 5 yard passes and getting our recievers and running backs killed waiting on passes to come down. maybe Im wrong but curtis cant walk because chad didnt scare anyone, besides its 7 years of the same crap you know where your not going with chad, why not fix the line and give the kid a chance, whats the worst thing that can happen we start 1 and 7 , been there done that. this is why its time for a change period.
In reality 3 wins and playing better than Chad this season is not much of an accomplishment. It's like saying a coach is better than Rich Kotite; I'm not sure if that's a compliment. I think people are concerned with our QB situation for the future not with the change.
Quarterback ratings mean shit. Ask Troy Aikman - he's way down on the list. Or read a Phil Mushnick column. Lol.
Did Clemens play better than Chad?? I don't think so. The guy did nothing well. I can't look at any facet of his game and say oh he does this good. The only thing he showed me that he does better than Pennington is throw harder. He's less accurate though, has no poise, doesn't seem to be the leader pennington was, and completely panics whenever there is a rush. And believe me I think we need to go in another direction than Chad I'm just very skeptical that Clemens is that guy.
clemens played a half a season that everyone knew was in the shitter, I dont think chad has anymore upside, I gotta believe clemens does.
Awesome another, I need to find any stat I can find to convince everyone Chad is good and KC sucks. OK, we get it KC sucks, Chad is awesome.............. can you go now? When you are done spooning tomorrow morning say hello to Chad for those of us here at Tgg.
EXACTLY!!!!!!!! All the anti Chad guys immediately assume that when you criticize Clemens its a ploy for Chad to stay or start. They accuse the Chad supporters of being on their knees with his schlong in their mouths... When in fact that it is they that are doing with Clemens. The guy just is not that good , of all the guys taken on day 1 of the draft the past 2 years , He is near the bottom. Brodie Croyle , Trent Edwards and Kolb are all better and John Beck and Tavaris Jackson if not better are no worse.
