http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jet...ill-a-jet.html "Buzz: Chatman won't be traded Now I?m hearing that RB Jesse Chatman won?t be traded. And his agent said last night that Chatman wasn?t released. Asked about a report that his client had been released, the agent, Brett Tessler, said in an e-mail, ?That is not correct. He did not get released.? But yet something is going on. Hmmm. Maybe they?re switching him to cornerback. Maybe they?re going to hire him to coach with Mike Westhoff, whose return has been probable for more than a week. Maybe Chatman, who once weighed 280 pounds, is going to take a job with Nutrisystem and tour the country as a poster boy for weight loss. Maybe I should just wait for Eric Mangini?s conference call at 1 p.m. Buzz: Chatman won't be traded Now I?m hearing that RB Jesse Chatman won?t be traded. He has certainy outperformed Jones this preseason.
This certainly seems like the logical move, have him on the team, even getting 4-5 carries/game to keep Jones fresh as Washington does his scat back thing. Glad to hear this...
An awful lot of chatter about a 3rd string RB. Unprecedented. Probably tried to work out a deal and couldn't get it done.
Because for the first time in a few seasons we know who the starting QB is so we have to learn how to nitpik about a whole different group of players.
Hehe...changed again. Roster cuts could include a trade The rosters must be trimmed to 53 by 4 p.m., and I can tell you right now, the Jets have a lot of moving parts. They’re still working on the final cuts and, from what I’m told, there could be a trade. Unfortunately, I don’t have details, so let’s speculate. If they trade a player on their own roster, it presumably would come from an area of strength. Right now, they’re deep at tight end and cornerback. Okay, let’s dig deeper. I don’t think they’d trade Chris Baker because he’s still their best all-around tight end and, let’s be honest, would you want Bubba Franks as your starter? Didn’t think so. Let’s go to cornerback. Just a hunch, but what about Justin Miller? If they really like rookie Dwight Lowery - and it seems like they do - it could make Miller expendable. Miller is going into the final year of his contract and he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. Maybe they decide to get some compensation while they can. Lowery and Darrelle Revis would be the starters, with Drew Coleman and David Barrett as the third and fourth corners. Don’t forget about WR Chansi Stuckey, now in the cornerback mix. I think Hank Poteat is toast. Ahmad Carroll is on the bubble. If the Jets trade for a player, I’d have to think it would be a safety or an offensive lineman or maybe an inside linebacker. Their depth at those positions is shaky. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2008/08/roster-cuts-could-include-a-tr.html
Yeah, most 3rd string RBs get less than 50 carries a season, so perhaps it seems cuckoo to get all worked up over them. But then injuries and/or ineffectiveness occur and that 3rd string guy may be the key guy down the stretch. This time last year Ryan Grant was behind Brandon Jackson, Vernand Morency, and DeShawn Wynn on the Packers depth chart.
CHATMAN REPORT WRONG? Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2008, 10:47 a.m. In response to a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the Jets have released running back Jesse Chatman, Chatman’s agent has contacted us to offer his take on the situation. The Jets did not release Jesse Chatman, nor will they,” agent Brett Tessler said. “And they are not trying to trade him like another paper reported.” So there you have it. Later today, we’ll know for sure who’s right. (Our money is on Tessler.) from profootballtalk
With Musa Smith and Jehuu Caulcrick and the plethora of other RB's we had gone, I am glad we have a little breathing room when it comes to depth at the running back position.
Chatman is an important player. We need a guy that can move the team as a third option, and in case of injury. I was really perplexed, as to why they would trade him. Miller i could see getting cut loose. He sucks as a corner, and we don't need him as a kick returner. SEE YA!
Well, Cimini still says they are trying to make a trade but everybody has given up on who and for what.
I believe the NFL deadline is 4:00 PM--at least that's what every source I've been reading says. I think the extra two hours has probably been added to give them time to sort out all the last minute changes, as well as any post deadline pick-ups they might make.
