The reason that Rex has been successful so far as a head coach while his father failed is simple: Buddy had outright disdain for his offensive players. He couldn't care less about that side of the ball, and (at least with the Eagles) he used practices as an exercise for his defense to humiliate the offense. Rex, while he focuses on defense, has a more balanced approach.

Put it this way: on the sideline Rex is hugging Schottenheimer. Buddy was punching Gilbride.

Mike & Mike talked about Buddy compared to Rex. Said both have a great mind for defense , but Buddy was just a mean person while Rex is just so great with people. As a football fan Rex Ryan is a breath of fresh air for the coaching world. Outgoing, confident, speaks his mind, and shows a passion for what he is doing with this team. I think he takes the negative connotation associated with a payers coach and shows that it works when you treat players like men and make them accountable. The Rhodes benching calling Sanchez a knucklehead etc..

Ironically, I think the 4-6 is the key to this weeks victory.

We can't have mismatches on the field....It's gonna be a chess match.
