Of course today's trade for Holmes appears to be a steal for the Jets. Giving up a 5th round pick for a rent a player for a year has tremendous upside with little risk involved. That being said, the Jets are turning into a team that takes markers on players with severe character issues. I'm sure most of you don't give a shit as long as they can play but its harder to root for players like Holmes that beat women, avoid support etc. Whatever happened to the character issues that the Jets so coveted just a few years back. The Jets could have drafted Thomas in the first this year. Let's face it we are not going to be able to keep all these free agents anyway. I applaud Rooney for removing troubled players. I heard the Pitt was going to cut Holmes anyway. One final note, what if the Jets loose both receivers next year do to free agency or additional off the field issues? What will the Jets do for a passing game? If anything the Jets will be setback another couple years of Sanchez WR development.

As long as we win everything will be cool. If the "character issue" guys dont work out, they will be gone at the end of the season.

    1. someone stepped up and admitted to throwing the drink, im not sure where this beating women is coming from...thats brandon marshall.

    2. we will keep all these free agents when we are a dominant team and the players dont want to leave the rex ryan atmosphere

I don't understand why these guys don't have morality clauses in their contracts like the NASCAR drivers do.
I think the owners union should push for that as hard as they push for a rookie salary cap.Owners are investing HUGE amounts of $ in these players and need to have some sort of insurence that their investment is sound.
What better deterent does a player need but the chance to lose millions?

What if they win the Super Bowl in the interim? What if Edwards returns to Pro Bowl form?

The reward out weighs the risk. If anything it gives Holmes and Edwards something to play for as they are both playing for a contract pay day. Let the best receiver win.

Plus there's always the franchise tag.

In terms of character issues, you are right: as long as they win I'm not too bothered. I buy the gear and cheer for the team to win. I'm not too concerned whether they're choir boys off the field either way.

Holmes is a champion, he knows how to win in this league. Twitter needs to go for him, or he just needs a publicist to read everything he writes before he posts it on his account.

I think we have good leadership on the team in guys like Bart and Mangold, Cotchery and others. They can help keep the team focused. Im confident that the leadership we have can keep the egos in check.

Jenkins was a problem in Carolina = No issues here in New York
Edwards was a problem in Cleveland = No issues here yet in New York
Sanchez was once accused of felony rape = No issue here yet in New York

We have a pretty good track record when it comes to character issues in other places.

For sure. I just see the 'good guys' as a bonus, not a necessity.

Kerry Rhodes is soo upset he's not here anymore. This team definitely had no extra room for his ego.

I feel your pain. I don't like Holmes, and I was dead set against trading for Brandon Marshall to a much larger degree. Unfortunately, the party boy thug persona is becoming much more prevalent in the NFL, no matter what Goodell or anyone else does, and if I was to stop liking each player because of the less savory aspects of their personal lives - I'd end up not enjoying football at all.

Sometimes it's easier to ignore their personal lives altogether. Not that I want us to trade for Marshall in 2011. That dude is a piece of shit.

All these guys are one year deals

    Braylon Edwards
    Antonio Cromartie
    Santonio Holmes

Thus you would at least think that all of them have an incentive to stay out of trouble so they can cash in.

If that weren't enough playing for rex ryan is also some incentive because if you have problems playing for rex ryan than odds are no one is really going to look at you very favorably for the most part.

I wouldn't be concerned about character issues now, I would be concerned if we sign all three long term.

Plus its not like questionable character is the core of the team. The core is still sanchez, brick, mangold, cotch, revis, harris i.e. High Character guys.

Right now its about one thing, winning a superbowl, it truly is superbowl or bust

Great point, screwing up in your contract year would be quite stupid. Especially if your trying to make it rain in the clubs.

All in all I think these guys want to win a championship..and come football season, their focus will be in football.
