I would say gosh maybe Testerverde is masquerading as Chad out there... only he throws faster balls. What happened to the accuracy and smart decision making Chad.... *cries*
One tipped ball. One late interception where the other team knows hes throwing. Not all interceptions are equal.
i got bout 15 interceptions/bad decisions he has made. 15 interceptions, 5 fumbles 3 lost = 18 turnovers thats 18 turnovers out of a total team 22 turnovers. http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-TURNOVERS/2006/regular?sort_col_1=9&_3:col_1=6
The deal was: We'll accept your rag arm as long as you use your head (i.e. high percentage, low interceptions, and get the Ws) Chad, you're breaking the terms and forcing us to look for an arm.
looking at the play again you realize if cotchery doesnt tip that ball it was going to be picked anyway.
It's like you're dating this girl for a couple years, she not bad but pretty average looking - not that great but you can live with it. Everything is going okay and you're relatively happy, things could be better but they're not awful. Then one day she comes home and out of nowhere she's got a dick.
Pennington has had 5 games with multiple picks this year, and only 4 games with no picks. Accuracy/decision making was supposed to be his strength. At some point you can't keep pulling excuses out of the air. Plus that tipped pass would have been picked anyway.
The "tipped ball" nonsense needs to stop too. It was tipped because he threw it 3 feet too high to a wide open WR.
YUP ! Lets stop holding chad's hand and hold him accountable for his horrendous play. Yes i agree he is not 100% at fault but he is 85% of the problem. Two surgeries he will NEVER be the same again. Hes got balls just no arm.
Agreed - it was an awful pass to a wide open Cotchery. And "the defense knowing you're going to pass" doesn't mean that it's okay to throw a pass directly at the linebacker. Someone should also let him in on the fact that just because you're tackled from behind, that doesn't mean you have to fumble the ball. As you and others have noted, the deal with Pennington was always that while he wasn't a playmaker, he wouldn't make mistakes. That is simply not the case any longer - he makes bad decisions and throws inaccurately far too often for someone who can't make the tough passes. I said weeks ago that he should start until the Jets have 7 losses, so I'm still with him as the starter next week. Having said that, IMO it is well past time after the season is over for the Jets to move on and find a new starting QB.
And the play before that, the ball was thrown to the shoelaces. I think they heard me cursing all the way to Broadway. My problem with Chad is, I never know which QB is going to show up for the game. Put a little pressure on him and he folds like a lawnchair. He starts spraying the ball irradically and making absolutely horrendous decisions. Then, instead of being able to compose himself, it always goes downhill from there, which usually gets pretty dismal.
I watched the post-game Press Conference on SNY and Chad was his typical, composed self after the game. But it's so incongruous from his composure an hour earlier, which is a whole other issue. But be that as it may, at the PC he calmly talks in "coachese," using all the worn-out cliches about not getting the team in a "position to win" and certainly "things we have to work on" and he even said "I'll get it fixed." Fix what? He's had years to fix this Deer-In-The-Headlights thing when pressured. He's had 13 games to get used to a little pressure and to teach himself to calm TF down and just do what he does best, pass with accuracy. One ball is to the shoelaces, another 12' in the air, another is behind the receiver. Just WTF are you going to fix, Chad, with 3 games left?
The int run back for a TD looked a lot like Vinny. Although it wasn't a clean pass straight into the defenders hands.
You want to blame cotchery for attempting to catch a horrible thrown ball that would have been intercepted even if he hadn't touched it?
He wasn't blaming Cotchery.... he was saying that it would have been an INT even if it weren't tipped.
