Next week, he?ll visit the Pats and work out for the Browns. Cleveland holds the fifth overall pick; Jenkins arguably would be a reach in that spot, especially since his relatively slow time in the 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine could make him better suited to playing safety.It?s unlikely that Jenkins will still be on the board when the Jets? first pick in the draft, the seventeenth overall, is on the clock. Might as well take a look. WR is a way larger need, but I guess we could get a good one of those in Rd 2.
I don't know shiaat about the guy, but another stud CB opposite Revis would be real nice. What does that say about the Lito Sheppard trade then.........
I think he will be a fine DB no matter which position he plays. He's not my favorite one comming out, but he has skills. I think Vontae Davis may be a better pure corner. As far as the guys who can play corner of Safty give me Sean Smith. Really if we go DB at 17 give me Smith over anyone.
I'd pass on Jenkins and Davis at #17. Jenkins is more a zone guy; we need speedy cover corners and Davis is more athlete than corner. Physically gifted, like his brother in San Fran, but not sure he's gonna be anything special at the pro level. How about Chang at safety in the 2nd? But we did match the Brown's offer to Elam, so i doubt it.
There is plenty of reason to be concerned about Sheppard being asked to be an every down man coverage guy.
I'm a big fan of Jenkins. I always love corners with size that aren't afraid to come up and make hits. The fact that he's a Piscataway native doesn't hurt, but I do think the idea that he's better suited for Safety is a bit of an overstatement. He'd probably be nasty there, don't get me wrong, but I think he can be a very good corner depending on where he ends up. And a team like the Jets could work for a few reasons: 1. The Jets have a corner opposite him that can handle anything. 2. They have a real quality centerfield type safety that can erase a lot of mistakes. 3. They'll have a defense that will demand physicality from every position, and a lot of corners cannot supply that.
