Chris Mortenson was just on Michael Kay and said Bill Parcells BADLY wants Calvin Pace, but the Jets seem to be the frontrunners for him...he is coming to NY tomorrow... I was opposed to Pace, but the more I hear, I actually hope we get him...
What? Wow, we're going nuts here. That would likely mean we would not be interested in Gholston in the draft if we land Pace. I'm starting to think the Jets are liking the idea of either McFadden or Mendenhall at pick 6....
If Parcells likes him, he must be good. Sean Ryan was a fucking dominant tight end in New York, and Parcells loved that guy. Seriously though, I think Calvin Pace is actually a good fit for this defense...especially if he comes here for a decent price.
I wasn't that excited about the prospect of signing Pace, but in a way I'd almost be glad for it simply out of spite for the Dolphins. Not to mention the fact that the signing would give the Jets more of an ability to go with BPA in the draft.
Pace/Gholston If we get Pace, what does that mean for Gholston? We obviously dont sign Pace and draft Gholston , do we? I think Gholston will be gone anyway so if we got Pace as insurance I will be thrilled. If that happens and we cannot trade out of the 6th spot, who do we draft?
I don't love Pace, but any pass rushers we get are an upgrade. Let's not break the bank. If we could add a guy like Pace and then add some linebackers later on, drafting a guy like McElvin at six would be a great idea. That kid is special. -X-
Depth at OLB is a virtue. You still nab Gholston if he's there and you have 4 guys who can pressure the QB from the OLB position in Gholston, Pace, Bowens, and Thomas. Make a good rotation and make schemes to take advantage of this strength.
I could see that. I also see trying to trade down becoming a more and more likely scenario for the Jets. Whether they can pull it off or not is another thing but if we get Pace I think Gholston is unlikely.
If we take Pace and Gholston, then Gholston gets to be a 3rd-down pass rusher behind Ellis for a year or until he's ready to be an every-down DE. Then, its bye-bye to Ellis. If that's what happens, anyway.
Gholston isn't going to play end though...he'll be an outside linebacker. I believe that if the Pace signing happens, Gholston will not be selected. The FO is trying to fill all of the holes now so they can go BPA.
Bold is true - the rest is fiction IMO. Gholston would be a beast as a 3rd down pass rush specialist. But how he would replace Ellis as a 3-4 DE is beyond me. I agree with the rest of the guys who see us adding Pace and Gholston as a good idea. You can never have enough 3-4 OLB's. Having a fresh pass rush late in the game does wonders for a D - see the SB champion NY Giants for proof.
Mendenhall or McFadden. ...I want Rashard Mendenhall. I think he's going to be an absolute beast in this league.
