Signature win in Pittsburgh?? Really? I watched that game, and I remember being disgusted. Sure we won, and I am glad we did. But I swear we tried to give that game away at every chance throughout. Lot of luck bounced our way that day. Now everyone is lauding it as some kinda moral victory or something rather. It was another ugly win. You can win a game or two ugly and it is what it is. When you end up with a string of them there is an issue.
I think Pittsburgh was a better win for the team than the debacles in DEN/DET/CIN/HOU for two reasons... 1) Pittsburgh is clearly a better team than the rest of those, even without Polamalu... and 2) despite getting a scare at the end there, in this particular instance we held the initiative of forcing them to make a miracle drive at the end rather than having to do it ourselves. Generally when you close out a game defensively, scary or not, then it was done the right way.
Who the fuck cares if it's a 'beautiful' win or a 'ugly' win. A win is a win. The fact of the matter is, The Jets won that fucking game. Did the defense not get a huge fucking safety, that basically sealed the Steelers fate? Jesus Christ.
love this. and anyone complaining about the pittsburgh win is an asshole. we beat the #2 seed in the afc at a crucial point in the season, thats all that matters. can't wait for tomorrow night.
We see every game, so we're hyper-critical of Jets wins and losses. Has anyone watched Atlanta this year? They're being touted as the toast of the NFC, but many of their wins were "uglier" than some of The Jets wins. Let's not dismiss a win against anyone because it was "ugly" while lauding other teams victories without the same intimate knowledge. The Jets match up very well against the particular Colts team, who have played like shit most of the year, but are still heavy favorites because they're "Peyton Manning and The Colts" Didn't they lose to Houston?
Burning the boats isn't really an apt metaphor. Only way it would work is if Rex did something like announcing that he's buying everyone's plane tickets to New England for next week and, if the Jets lose, they're on their own to get home.
Damn, I'd love to see a video of his speech also. Stories like this make me realize how fortunate Jets fans are to have Rex ... even if some of them complain too much to appreciate it.
The idea is that they burned the boats as a way of saying there's no turning back, no retreat, get in there and destroy the enemy or they will destroy you. That no matter how bad the odds are, how outnumbered, how shitty things look, we're still better than them. It's a perfect analogy.
