I propose a Life Time Ban on any TGG member who whines about or otherwise complains about 1) Any draft pick, 2) Any free agent signing, 3) Any head coach selection on the defensive side of the ball.

    Denver Defense: 24

Panther's offense, let by MVP QB Cam Newton: 10

    DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

Our beloved Jets are 1-2 players away from our own dominant, suffocating defense. It's taken us 6 years to get to this point. Dear Maccagnan, please complete the process! And for those of you who love to post: "Defensive lineman never won a SB", you can put that pen away. For good.

On the offensive side of the ball, Peyton completed 13 passes for 141 yards. But Denver didn't need a franchise QB to crush Tom Brady and the high powered Patriots in the AFCCG, and Denver didn't need a franchise QB to crush the 17-1 top ranked Carolina Panthers.

We came oh-so-close with Rex Ryan's defense and a rookie QB with a good running game. We didn't come away with the top prize so many here decided to move back to the offensive side of the ball. But after today, I am 100% convinced: Stay the course. Focus 80-90% of our new resources on Defense, and in the mean time field the best Offense you can.

    Summary:

Dominant D-line and pass rushing OLB >>> $30M/yr franchise QB

    Stay the course

People got carried away with the Panthers...if you banned all these people 70 percent of the board would be banned. Panther were dominating because points off turnovers... their offense was overrated and Denvers D was underrated.

Immediate ban on any whining.... great that you get to set the standard for the rest of this online community. You're giving a textbook example of censorship in a post modern society.

probably! But look, we've lost sight of just how important a dominating defense can be in winning championships. I can show you 500 threads ON THIS SITE from fans who insist that we (the Jets) will never win ANYTHING until we have our own franchise QB. As if the Giants win over the unbeaten Patriots wasn't enough of a lesson, let tonight's Denver/Panthers game cast it in concrete:

    DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

stay the course, we're almost there

I'll admit, seeing what Denver did has made me want to keep this D-line together, and simply add 1-2 legit pass rushers (use the 1st 2 picks on the best available OLB), and steal Danny Trevathan from the Broncos to fill the ILB spot.

Boy, I'd love to have Von Miller on this team.

    Speed, speed, speed.

We need speed everywhere. Speed on defense, speed on offense, speed on special teams. Yes we have a very good DLine but since we don't have fast linebackers, our strength is being neutralized.

Build the D. Exactly. But while building, please make sure speed is there.

Yes yes and yes. Denver had the corners, and rangy linebackers who could tackle AND cover. Having guys like Miller and Ware goes without saying. Our priorities now should probably lie in drafting/signing a top ILB and OLB. Maybe even a corner too...Cro sucks and Williams may or may not be solid for a full year. Revis is aging and then there's just question marks behind them. Skrine was so-so this year.

It was one game though. Seattle and Arizona (and Carolina) arguably had better defenses this year. And Carolina ran over them.

The stage wasn't too big for Denver. It was too big for Carolina.

And Phillips came up with the perfect gameplan for the 2nd game in a row.

Defense helps to win championships. But let's not act like what the Broncos just did is the norm. For every champion like them, there are 10 with an elite QB whose defense plays well enough to win.

it is the norm. Carolina dominated in the NFC playoffs due to defense.
the stage wasn't too big for Peyton, but it was the better defensive performance which won the Super Bowl.........again.

But how many times does a team with a QB that does that little , actually get the chance to play in the game?

I said it in the SB thread , but to me that was the worst QB'd Superbowl I ever watched. Peyton made a couple nice throws but nothing of note. The reason they won those was because his turnover wasnt backbreaking the way Cam's 2 TO's were.

And as for Carolina dominating with defense in the title game , Cam did have 5 total TD's.

As for this game , experience definitely played a huge role , I agree with that.

We aren't the Denver Broncos..... We could have the same D that Denver had, we still would have found a way to blow it...... Just like the 2 straight AFC championship games we blew.

This is a copycat league so, look for the Jets to continue to concentrate on the defense. Especially with a defensive HC. Luckily we do have a good offense already in place.

I thought we morally won those games since we've lived off those two games for years and some still do.

You may be right, but it seems that when one team has a great offense and is facing a team with a great defense, defense usually wins.

I credit the game plan over everything for this win. I wouldnt call the Panthers offense great or even the Broncos defense great. Very good but nothing that will go down in history. I think if people were ranking defenses prior to the start of these playoffs , not many people would say Denver had the best one. I look at as similar to when a good QB goes on a great run and wins a SB. Like what Eli and Flacco did.

And look at the Giants/Pats Superbowls. Giants never had "great" defenses. They just mastered the art of stopping Brady. And those Pats offenses were far and away better than the Panthers this year.

In just last years Superbowl the best offense beat the best defense. And a defense that I think a lot of people would call much better than the Denver one this year.

There was not one defensive holding, pass interference, or illegal contact on Denver the entire game. The one defensive holding I the red zone was picked up and no replay was shown. You also watch the Von Miller first sack and his right hand hit Newton in the face mask. Like it or not, those are all penalties against the jets and the catch is called correctly.

Denver gets a td after the catch, missed fg after the flag was picked up.

Are you saying this one was preordained by some remote chance?
