Bryan Thomas had 7.5 sacks in the last 9 games of last year. I think this year he could easily push 10+ and make it to the Pro Bowl. Thoughts?
This is a big year for BT. He showed last year that he can be an impact pass rusher from the stand-up position and also be a solid all around player. But he needs to continue to show consistency to prove that the big contract he recieved was worth it. Also, can he take his game to the next level and register 10+ sacks? If he does, and the team makes the playoffs, he very well may make the PB.
there are a lot of great pass rushing OLBs in the AFC right now. 10+ sacks wont do it. he needs to score some touchdowns, pick off some passes etc.
Ummmm...No...but if he does what he is asked, I may no longer see him as the bug-eyed cactus that SundayJack so eloquently referred to earlier this year.
I agree, there are just too many good pass rushing OLBs in the AFC right now for him to make it, unless he goes completely ballistic. I can see him performing at a Pro Bowl level next year, but making it is a completely different story.
I don't think he will, but I do see him as being better all-around than he was last year with a year under his belt. I could see him being a cusp player for the Pro Bowl based on his numbers but, as stated above, will miss it because there's a lot of talent at his position in the AFC.
He honestly has the potential to, and he's got experience now. I see him as a similar player to DeMarcus Ware. They're remarkably similar athletes. Thomas is a do-it-all 3-4 OLB who can rush the passer, play the run, and is raw but not terrible in coverage. Last years experience could help him really breakout this year. He's just entering his prime at 28 too.
No, with the load-up of players in the front 7 and the hybrid rotational defense we are running, I don't think he'll get the stats he needs, which will have to be a lot since he's a New York Jet. I doubt it happens.
No way he makes it. Is Bryan Thomas a household name across America??? Unless he breaks some records for a LB, he'll perform solid as he did this year, and be home in mid February.
Its a battle between heart and head this one. Head says no way , not only would he need to step up about 3 gears I'm still not convinced that he was/is a round 1 pick. Heart says yes , why not? If he can study hard and train hard anything could be possible , its a very long shot , but maybe.

I think he is capable of making the Pro Bowl. I think we can all agree that there was a turning point for the Jets defense during the Browns game.The run defense had improved and the play calling was much more aggressive.7 and a half of Thomas's sacks came after or during the Browns game,if we play the same type of defense for a whole year then I reckon Thomas could put up 10+ sacks.
Doesn't it make you shake your head that we are now talking about a pro bowl for the guy who was drafted INSTEAD of ed reed..... goes to show you rookies here that the right scheme HAS to be in place to make your draft picks successful. some very astute posters here mentioned back in 02 and 03 that thomas would fit much better in a 3-4 alignment. kudos to them....they should have been calling the shots back in the days..... jil
interesting. I think I agree that ten sacks isn't enough, but the question of whether or not he will be pro-bowl material - ala Kerry Rhodes - is interesting. We'd probably agree that 15 sacks and a couple key ESPN highlight plays on a 10-6 team would make a pretty good case. Is that out of the realm of possibility? It's certainly on the high end, but I don't think many poeple think 10 is ridiculous. Five more isn't an impossibility. I think Bryan Thomas and DRob are going to be our most-improved players this year, so I'll go out on a limb and take that high projection for him. I think Bryan THomas will get 15 sacks, 50 tackles and make the pro bowl.
if he helps get us to the SUPERBOWL, i'll be thrilled. who really gives a shiat about the pro bowl. i think it's the wrong bowl game to be looking forward to watching!!!!
I think Thomas will have a nice year, but there are too many high profile guys at the linebacker position who would beat him out. I hope I'm wrong. -X-
I think it's a little bit of chicken vs. the egg. If the Jets blow the doors off the league next year, then their players will be given a lot of consideration for the Pro Bowl (a la San Diego this year). Of course, the performance of the players would drive the overall Jets' performance, so Pro Bowl consideration would be warranted anyway. I think the Kerry Rhodes analogy is apt: it takes a year of superior performance to pierce the Pro Bowl bubble before entrance is granted.
