Everyone always talks about the teams that will be better next year, but this is the only one I can think of that will clearly be worse than last year. The Broncos haven't done much right this offseason.

The Broncos are starting a nice slide into franchise oblivion. All the personnel fiascos aside, ditching what is sure to be a top five pick next year while holding onto the Bears' pick (likely no higher than 20) should compliment McDaniels' franchise-crushing tenure well.

at least the coaching staff bonded well with their franchise QB, that's a good start.

I'm one of the few who think the Broncos are heading in the right direction. I love Ayers and Moreno and I think a lot of those mid first round picks will get signed quickly. After hearing interviews with Alphonso Smith here in Denver this week, I think he is going to be a great addition to the team. He's basically said "I'm a rookie, I don't know anything, I'm going to keep my head down and do what the veterans tell me." He's short but talented. And I think Pat Bowlen not wanting to pay 4 first round draft choices in the next 2 years might have had something to do with them trading away next year's first. The biggest thing they are going to need is the NT.

Kyle Orton showed major flashes last season. I don't think he'll ever be a franchise QB by any means, but if he can continue to progress he could be an alright starter for Denver. Don't know what to expect from Denver next season. Their D can't be any worse.

i hated that trade. next year's 1st (which is top 10) for a guy who, IMO, doesn't project better as a nickel corner. small and slow

I'd say they have a lot of talent stacked in the backfield, an underrated QB (at least for anyone who didn't see what Orton did while healthy in Chicago last season), talent on the line, two dominant receivers and an up and coming TE...and a shit defense.

I still say I'd love to see who gets dumped out of that backfield before the season starts. I'm a big fan of Hillis and Torain going forward, but it looks like both will be kept. Torain has started the offseason and TC well and Hillis can be a ball carrying FB.

Not to mention they're no longer considered one of the marquee NFL franchises as they were for more than a decade. It's not easy to fall that fast yet the Broncos have done everything possible in their power to make their descent as quick and deliberate as possible.

They might have had a rough off season, but they have great fans, a great stadium, and a great owner. I think the Broncos will be fine.

^^Yeah no doubt a great fanbase and the other things you mentioned. They'll be fine. I'm completely neutral on the Broncos success or lack thereof, except for the fact that it's one less AFC team for the Jets to have to contend with (if we're in contention that is).

    Holy Thread Bump, Batman!

Not only did they win 5 games, they did it in the FIRST 5 games.

I have to say, while I saw them doing ok with Orton, I was dead wrong about that defense.

I was completely wrong. I mostly faulted Orton, but I must say he played GREAT tonight.
