clemens. we should have not drafted clemens because we will be in the sweeps for quinn. we should have picked up Justice to solidify the O-Line and then next year we pick up either quinn, leak, ect. Our Oline would have shut down ends and be ready for quinn to play. But I've been thinking If we don't go out for quinn next year because clemens proves to be hell of a quarterback. We should go after teddy ginn jr. I'm hearing he is the next randy moss. He is tall quick can jump and catch. adrain peterson would be the ideal option but he is playing for all four years.

qb depth is never a bad thing

worse case chad or ramsey gets released after this season

best case all three are playing well and we are picking last in the first round

chris leak does not look like he will translate into a good pro QB.

1)Clemens with a year to learn the offense will likely be better than Quinn with no experience

2)There is no guarantee of being able to get Quinn

    3) Clemens can at least be a backup if after a year he doesn't look like starting material.

4)If we didn't draft a QB and Chad and Ramsey both sucked this year we would only have Bollinger left on the roster.

Drafting a QB was a smart and necessary move!

I'm not sure if Quinn is any better than Clemens....

....just because he gets a lot of pub playing at Notre Dame. He did have a terrific receivers and RBs last year not to mention an offensive genius as a coach. Let's see how the Quinn looks this year.

Lynch or Peterson are better options IMHO....

...if either one comes out as a JR, I would draft them over Quinn. Or a monster pass rusher.

Also justice has character issue. You won't see this team pick up anyone that has character issues until Mangini starts proving himself as a coach.

Hell, Leak doesn't even translate into a good college QB.

I read this and thought - where is it stated that you can only get a top flight QB in the first round? There are a ton of examples of great QB's coming from later rounds(Farve, Brady etc.).

JTRAIN - We need to give Clemens so time on the Field to see what we have before we worry if he will be a bust!

Did you consider the fact that maybe Quinn will drop off next year? Maybe he will completely fall apart in his senior year, for any number of reasons. Maybe he will face a season or career ending injury at some point in '06. There are too many variables to consider, none of which would bode well for the Jets if we were to wait.

It would have been a foolish move for the Jets to pass on Clemens in the hopes that somehow Quinn is just as good next year AND is there for the picking. Sorry, but they did the better thing in not following your sage advice.

really, that is just outstanding. and where are you hearing this that has you so convinced it will absolutley be true. I mean, players deemed "the next" anybody always turn out to be.

hey, I'm hearing Clemens is going to be the next Montana, Elway AND Marino. that should put your concerns at ease.

and the packers were idiots for trading a first rd pick for a third string qb with major issues -- oh wait that was brett farve --

you have no idea what clemens will mature into -- a top notch pro qb, a backup , or a flop -- but he has solid intangibles and if he didn't break his ankle would have been in the same breath as the big three QBs this year.

ROFL Ginn Jr is good.but i certainly wouldnt call him the next randy moss

and NO WAY WERE IN THE QUINN SWEEPS. hes a top 3 pick and we will be picking around 10-15 next yr IMO.

if anything i say we move heaven and earth to get adrian peterson. that is a man amongst boys in college. hes rediculously fast and lays the hammer. (this is of course barring some great show of potential by our other backs this yr)

Quinn would have easily been the first quarterback selected had he declared this year. I have no doubt he'll go first next year, unless Stanton blows him away.

I don't mind Clemens. I did at first, but I think some of the scouting reports were inaccurate. His arm is better than I thought and his mobility and toughness are commendable. I don't think he should be rushed, but I think I like his future here.

Quinn is overrated. If the Jets have a high pick in 2007, they need to use it on a franchise RB.

Leak looks like crap. There's no guarantee Quinn will be any good this year, and besides, he's more a product of the system. You didn't hear anything about the kid before Weis took over. There's no guarantee we will be in the running for Quinn, or even if we care about it. Clemens looks good on tape, and since we got him in the second round, he's not gonna break the bank. We got Ramsey dirt cheap and Chad took a paycut. I don't think picking up a smart QB that can make just about all the throws you need for cheap was a bad deal at all.

Im going to say this, and get CRUSHED for saying it.

    Clemens >= Quinn.

I think Clemens is going to be an awesome find. He was playing GREAT for Oregon last yr until he broke his ankle.

Couple that with Quinn possibly being the most overrated College QB in forever....
