Was this seasons draft the best the Jets have ever had.

Just to name a few, look who they drafted.

    [In no order]

D'Brick, Mangold, Brad Smith, Leon Washington, etc.

All of these guys (and the others not mentioned) had an impact on the team this eason. D'Brick and Mangold did amazing protecting Chad, Brad Smith was GREAT playing "Mr. Everything" during the games, and Leon Washington could be the Jets future Running Back.

I thought 2000 was the best. This is definitely up there, though.

Definitely a fantastic draft, but more importantly IMO is that our coaching staff apparently knows how to coach up the young guys and are not afraid to play them. Seeing the dramatic improvements from DRob and BT is proof of their coaching ability.

you have to put eric smith in that as well. The guy is starting to prove that the 3rd round wasn't a complete waste.

Drew Coleman had some starts here and there as well.

Sorry, but with Drew Coleman, all I can think of his him whiffing on Mark Bradley in the Bears game.

He was a 6th rounder for a reason.

A 6th rounder starting 3-4 games for us is impressive, no matter how good or bad our CBs are in general.

I still prefer the 2000 draft w/ Pennington, Ellis, Abraham, n Coles then the 2001 draft w/ Santana Moss, Lamont Jordan and Kareem McKenzie. But this year was a great draft

^ My look on it (out of the 3 you mentioned TheChadManCan)

    -2000 Draft
-This seasons draft (D'Brick, Mangold, Leon, Brad, etc)
    -2001 Draft

2001 is last because those 3 guys aren't on the team anymore. 2000 is my favorite because it gave us our franchise QB for years to come (present day) and a stud as our #1 Wide Receiver. And look what happened to Abe when he leaves the Jets. This seasons draft comes in at a CLOSE 2nd. It seems that EVERYONE drafted that played in a game did something to help the team win.

2000 was great, but hell, we had FOUR first rounders! If that doesn't turn out to be a great draft, somebody F'ed up big time.

When I saw this thread I went back and looked at the last 25 years...damn we had some BAD DRAFTS!!! I'm impressed with the contributions made by this year's draftees, from top to bottom. Still you really need to assess a draft a few years down the road, I think. This year's could be the best in our history if guys continue to work and produce.

We had a coupe of real good drafts in the late '70s

They set up our success in the '80s. But this draft was right up there.

Fair point about the 2001 draft. 2000 should be #1 also b/c the Abraham pick was really Nick Mangold. No Mangold and 2006 isnt as impressive

The Jets will have either #37 or #38 in the 2007 draft because of the trade with the Redskins completed during the 2006 draft

Wow this trade looks even better now, maybe a LaMarr Woodley, DeMarcus Tyler, Amobi Okoye or Michael Bush on the board at that point

Genom....you're right on!!! Eric Smith has been outstanding on Special teams and in nickel & dime situations. Eric is from Central Ohio, where I live, and he was an outstanding High School player. I saw Eric's School (Groveport) play our local High School and he was a man among boys....hard to believe the Buckeyes let him get away.

I still believe though, both of our 3rd rounders were a reach, but the 4th round made up for both of them.

The reason all of these players had an impact, besides from being excellent draft picks, our HC wasn't afraid to have an open competition. Our former Coach gave starting positions to Vets by default, even if they didn't deserve it. A rookie can't show their talents sitting on the pine..........ala Cotchery the last 2years.

I will say tho if Kellen Clemens is as good as Ron Jaworski and Merrill Hoge said on draft day, then this will be the draft that defines us for the next 5 to 10 years and the greatest draft in Jets history

Is it the draft, or is it the system?

Obviously Mangold is a stud, and im certain d'brick is going to be a very good player aswell.

Leon Washington is also very talented. If he had left after his junoir year at Florida state, he was projected as a late 2nd round-3rd rounder.

but for the other guys, the eric smiths of the world (don't get me wrong- i like this kid a lot), you wonder if they are truly the long-term answers or thriving because of the situations they're in.

Brad Smith remains the wild card. This year, he was basically the handy-man of the team. It remains to be seen if we can harnass his tremendous ability into a hines ward (who many people forget was a QB at Georgia) type of weapon.
