I didn't see Josh Beekman, the road grader guard from BC gone from the draft, i may be wrong but BC has a rich history of being a tough O-line school. We need to trade up to get him or Ramirez from Texas Tech, the guard position needs to be taken care of before the end of tomorrow, we can trade our other picks to get 1 of those 2 guys and they can come in and start instead of having a 10% of our 6th and 7th guys actually making an impact.
it hurts to see beekman an ramirez still on the board and not having a chance to get up to grab on of them, would be great, if we could make up a deal, and shop Barton, McCarains or Barrett to get to a place to grab a big guy, i would even shop all three of them for beekman or ramirez. But i really can?t see it hapening. If we could shop players to get a pick where we can get Beekman or ramirez, and then pick up solai or walter thomas + a fast WR with our 6th+7th rounder, that would be a great draft.
We fall in love with draft picks, or potential draft picks, way too quickly. These guys are 4th rounders or worse for a reason. Doesn't mean they won't end up being good, but they've been passed by every team in the league 3 times for a reason.
We need a huge OL and/ or DL Let's get it done. OK We can always wait until next year, Same as always.
Yeah I'm a bit concerned we have done nothing to improve our below average run blocking. I don't know anything about these guards that are still available but without even having a 4th round pick what are we going to do? Thomas Jones isn't going to make his own holes. I wouldn't mind if we packaged McCairens and 2007 pick(s) for Stacey Andrews
I think the FO has everything under control. I'd be surprised if we didn't come up with some additional picks. I also suspect the Jets may believe they can harvest a guard with good (if not ready to start) potential in the later rounds or as an UFA. I think Beekman is probably the best and most complete guard available. He seems ready to start. Ramirez is bigger but not as complete a player. I also really like Barbre. Some other remaining viable options (who may need some time to develop) are Heyer, Parrish, Vallejo, Johnson, Bushrod and Shakelford.
Also, we have to consider that Ferguson and Mangold will improve in their second season and the unit as a whole will benefit from starting a sceond season intact.
they did their job, they also can only block one player, the problem is our right side, and Kendalls age, if he chooses to retire next offseason we have 3 gaping holes in our O-Line after next season, and i doubt Tanny will be handing out millions over millions in FA to players like Steinbach. That means, if we can?t get Big guys today, we have to get at least 2 of them early next year, cuz we need rookies to start in 2008, that means 2 day one picks on o-line next year. i would prefer a move for a guy like ramirez, who we can develop and will be able to start in 2008. would be sweet to see them shop somone for a pick where we can get ramirez ore one of the others
Dont forget the Jets loved Blanton and Goddard maybe they feel these guys are better then anyone after Blalock.
