I just saw this on ESPN. They are shopping him. I wonder if the Jets will show interest. MM's mantra has been keep a vet at each position as well as a young guy to mentor. Bennett / Amaro could be a very good unit. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...rying-find-trade-partner-te-martellus-bennett He would be about a 6m cap hit with this being the last year of his deal. I wouldn't be opposed to trading a 5th for that. He's only 28, so he still has some good years ahead of him.
How'd he and marshall get along in Chicago? Can the jets negotiate before trading for him? I would go 3rd or 4th providing we can lock him ul for another 3 years. Maybe a a low pick next year thats grows with performance and him on the roster next year
He's due 5 mil next season. At this point he's worth about half that. So overpaid for a guy coming off a down year and almost 30. Bears would prob be lucky to get a 4th for him. And Id rather have that pick and go after a cheaper FA like Chandler, Gresham or Fleener.
We already embarrassed them with the Marshall trade , let's not give them the opportunity to redeem themselves . I would definitely make a play for Chandler
What's the projected going rate for Dwayne Allen? I'd rather make a run at a player like him who can not only catch but also block.
Chandler. He averaged 400yds and 6 TD's a year with Fitz in Buffalo, and had 4 TD's last year in NE. A great hold the fort guy and mentor for Amaro or whomever they want to groom. But I think Chandler will be signed for above league minimum, so it may not be much of a cash savings over Cumberland.
Maybe not much savings but if he produces than the value is there. The problem with Cumberland isn't that he has a huge cap hit (1.9m for a starting TE isnt much), its that he fucking sucks.
Bennett blocks and is actually regarded as one of the better blocking tightends the league despite how porous he was at it early on in his career. I'd throw them a bone for him, but not much more given the age/contract. If the Jets make a play for him we're going to see that this regime basically views Amaro as nothing more than a career #2 tightend IMO.
I'm not much of a Vernon Davis fan, but from what I've looked at, projections-wise, he's probably available for at or very near vet minimum.
A deal for Bennett might make sense if the Jets could agree to a contract extension for him with reasonable numbers. That of course is why Chicago is shopping him, with only one year left. But cost aside let's face it - he would instantly upgrade the passing attack, and is also a good blocker.
I would sign him if we could extend his contract for an extra year or two. Only thing I don't like about him is his inconsistency. When he turns it on, he is pretty pretty good. But at the same time, we made Bears look stupid with the Marshall trade. So it ain't happening unless we overpay and I know Mac won't overpay.
Better then Cumberland and Kellen Davis .A legit pass catcher ,we can finally wipe the dust off the TE playbook and run a few plays. Fitzpatick to Kellen Davis to win the game!!!!And he runs the route wrong and looks stunned that the ball was thrown anywhere near him
Definitely a luxury we can't afford anymore. Maybe if we got the Bears 1st round pick and Bennett for Mo and a conditional 4th rounder that could be interesting for both sides but we can't bring anymore big contracts in.
