Various reports say Leon Wahington has been offered 5 mill $ per year plus 10 mill guaranteed. IF that is the case and he refuses the deal what do you want Tanny to do? PS I'm presuming it's a 4 year deal but I'm not sure... If you find some info post it here
I say make it the final offer which is more than fair. Also never leave anything on the table, so I would be talking to other teams about trading him for a 2nd round pick which could be raised to a 1st round pick. The 1st round would be contingent on how he plays and if he is resigned by the team.
PS I know it may sound like blasphemy here but I wouldn't be that opposed to a Leon - Marshall swap... although I don't think Denver would be interested
I'm asking what you would do the moment Leon refuses it... I'm not saying that has to happen tomorrow or the day before reguaar season.
I'd let him refuse it, and let hiim sit a anotehr week or two in training camp before comming back to the table at all. Let it get closer to the season starting. Leon can make 5 mill or 500k This upcomming season. Let him sweat it out a bit.
There's no point in offering any more money. The Jets hold all the cards here and have made a very generous offer that they really didn't HAVE to make considering his current contract and potential uncapped year. If I'm Tanny and he rejects that offer I'd be inclined to milk him for as long as I can on the current 500k/yr deal.
To expand on my prevoius post a bit: The difference between the 500k vs 5 mill this season are huge to Leon ATM. The risk on his side is amazing. The NFL is known for being hard on its Athleats and the risk of season or career ending injury is always present. Letting Leon sit back and thinking about making 500k with nothing to fall back on vs 10 Mill Guarenteed and 5 mill this upcomming season alone would be prudent as GM. The Jets risk in the situation is they lose a very talented player. They also have the option of Franchise or restricted tags to use comming up. Leon's risk to the finances of his family could be overwhelming. If he says no I let it drag out a bit.
Exactly. He's getting a little too cocky here and yes he is a playmaker but no point in overpaying him. If he still doesn't comply I say trade him.
This is a no-brainer. The only risk for the FO was in looking unwilling to reward the team's most explosive player. I can't think of anyone outside of Leon and Keels who feels he merits more than $5 million per season. In fact, I'd think more people than not would place his value around $4 million. If Leon refuses this deal, you don't offer him another one. In fact, you scale back to $4.5 if he comes back to his senses. We have given him what we owed him, which was respect in the form of a more than fair contract. Nobody will look down on us for exercising the options open to us at this point if he refuses.
I voted final offer. I think the Jets are being generous if that's really the offer on the table. Leon should be very happy at 5mil/year +10million guaranteed.
I was not surprised to see that the overwhelming vote was that that would be the final offer, which is also how I voted. Any other choice would IMO be crazy.
