In Smith's scheme, the safeties often split the field in half. And given the struggles of the Bears current safeties, opposing teams would like pick on whoever is starting with Rolle, a Pro Bowl selection in 2009. The other prominent safety that could be available is Kerry Rhodes, a 2006 all-pro who 15 career interceptions and six forced fumbles. Rhodes is a well-balanced player who has shown versatility in Rex Ryan's defense, which demands versatility from its players. But Rhodes fell out of favor with coaches in November - he got into a shouting match with his secondary coach - and he was benched for two games. There have been suggestions that Ryan also hasn't been pleased with his focus on football. Rhodes acts, models and frequently appears on radio and television shows both locally and nationally. For the Bears, however, Rhodes may be a cheaper and more versatile alternative to Rolle. > http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010...iate_from.html
Oh you can't give Kerry Rhodes up for a 3rd rounder.... That's ridiculous... Always overrating these draft picks.... Guy's a proven, young NFL player.
I'm in the camp that thinks the Jets cannot let go of Kerry Rhodes until they know they have good options to replace him. I don't think he's a star player by any means and I know he is paid like one, however he is definitely an above average safety and until the Jets have the guy they know can replace him he needs to stay here. This is the Pete Kendall lesson, which is one I hope the Jets learned as we were all suffering through the atrocity that was 2007. If the Jets ever get to the point that they're sure they have two starting safeties, not including Rhodes, then by all means move him on for something that helps the team. To the basic idea that Rhodes is worth more than a 3rd round pick: really he's not. His performance over the last few seasons suggest that he's right in that range, maybe even a 4th.
He has the rare gift of being able to text maniacally--with a typing accuracy bordering on gifted--and manually stimulate his vagina.
What? I'm pretty damn sure we did not get a 3rd rounder for Vilma..... Anyone know for sure? I just dont believe that, I have never heard that. And BTW we gave up more then just a 3rd rounder to get Greene.
Well, you're pretty damn wrong, then. We traded Jonathan Vilma and our 2009 4th rounder to the Saints for their 2008 4th rounder and a conditional 2009 pick, which turned into their 3rd rounder. So, basically, we gave up that 4th and Vilma and got Shonn Greene and Dwight Lowery. You're right about giving up more. As I said, we traded up to get Shonn Greene. However, since our own 3rd rounder was gone via the Brett Favre trade, there is no way we would have had the ammo to move up and get Shonn Greene without that Vilma trade. Oh, here's a link for you. Do you believe it now? http://www.al.com/sports/press-register/mherndon.ssf?/base/sports/124041151199510.xml&coll=3
This is the best description that I could find about about how the 76 pick got into the Jets hands last year. The only part I can't dig up details for is the 113 in 2008, which was originally the Saints pick and sent to the Jets for Vilma. The Jets then traded it to Green Bay (somehow - can't find a reference) and then got it back from Green Bay later on. Green Bay had the Jets 102 in that same round so I am assuming they used the 113 to trade up and gave the Jets back something else but I'm not sure what. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NFL_Draft#cite_note-58
