looks like he got arrested for a DUI around 4AM this morning. dude has struggled big time, and seems his attitude is lacking. i would give him a look, and trust coaches opinion if they wanted to give him another shot. on a side note, i knew Amaro was dog shit coming out of that draft, but really thought ASJ was a complete 2 way player who would succeed. guess i was only half right. was a tough draft for TE's..
It wouldn't hurt to work him out if they have any interest, but if his team has given up on him already, then he's probably not worth it. He's been a disappointment, and I think had some attitude/work ethic concerns entering the draft his rookie season. The bolding in the stories below is mine. From http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000708050/article/austin-seferianjenkins-arrested-on-dui-charge He may get suspended by the league. From PFT http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...end-austin-seferian-jenkins-arrested-for-dui/ While he has a lot of talent, he doesn't sound like he's worth the trouble,as it doesn't seem like he loves the game or really works to be the best he can be. In his three seasons (including the first 2 games this season), he's only played in 18 games (starting only 12) caught 45 passes for 603 yards, scored 7 TDs, and has a 13.4 ypc average.
Do they have the cap space? I forget if they'd have to assume his contract, or would have to sign him to a new one. Do they want/need the distraction? If he's coachable and willing to work, there's no disputing that he could be a huge addition to the offense, but whether he takes the game seriously and is willing to put in the work is the big question.
Nah. Dude's a head case and Gailey doesn't need a TE for anything other than blocking. Why take on the risk of further suspension? I'd rather use the roster spot on someone else.
I'd say that Eric Ebron looks to be the gem of 2014's draft TE class. I believe that Jace Amaro getting hurt for the entire season during his 2nd year along with Austin Seferian-Jenkins' off the field battles have slown down their over progression. Jenkins I believe was also injured during his rookie campaign. With Seferian-Jenkins he's got tremendous size at 6'5/260 lbs along with excellent athleticism for a player of his size. He's got decent hands as well. Unfortunately for Austin he's got to find himself first and foremost and fortunately he's still very young at the age of only 23. Players such as Karlos Williams & Austin Seferian-Jenkins are (imo) worth taking gambles on although could both become locker room distractions.
i get what you are saying, but you gotta admit the bar is currently set pretty low at TE. does ASJ have more upside than Davis or Bostick? of course. he can block, and can be a sneaky pass catching option which neither of those guys really are. to me, it would come down to an interview and workout to see where his head and physical condition is at..........once he's released from jail of course lol.
He's a 1st round bust, but sure, go ahead and interview him and talk to the folks down in TB, his agents, his defense attorneys, whoever. I have no issue with due diligence. The fact that he has done virtually nothing in Tampa, couldn't beat out Cameron Brate, has had run ins with his coaches, doesn't fit our system, is unlikely to play special teams, and is probably facing a league suspension all lead me to stay very far away.
Totally agree. The jets appear to be using the redskins model of the late 80s, 3 wr, 1 blocking te, an1 rb
fair enough.. it wouldn't surprise me if rehab was in his immediate future. as part of that due diligence, perhaps evaluate whether a future contract could be worked out in the event he can enter next season with a clean head.
Teams rarely make changes like this mid season. Chan hasn't worked a TE into the plans since, well, ever. Even last season when our punter forgot how to punt, and 10,000 other better punters begging for a job, Bowles couldn't pull the trigger. Teams hate mid-season shake-ups. Now if our playbook was TE-centric and we lost like 3 TE's the same day, then sure, bring a guy in. But I don't see Chan expanding our playbook mid-season to accommodate a skill player who became available. haha now watch, tomorow's headlines: "Chan Welcomes TE Jenkins to Jet Roster"
Jenkins on Monday "I'm ready to contribute in any way possible." Jenkins 3 weeks from Monday "I don't feel like I'm being used right."
We don't use a TE. And you want one that got drunk heading to watch American Horror Story at Winston's crib?
Aside from that, what don't you like about him? Seriously, I pretty much feel the same way. I really, really liked him prior to the draft and wanted him instead of Amaro. Thank the heavens we didn't, because with Rex as his HC, we'd have gotten even less out of him than we did Amaro. That said, if he gets his head on straight or Bowles and/or Gailey think they could handle him and help him get his head on straight, it might be worth the shot. It would be a high risk, high reward kind of proposition. He may not cost that much financially, but roster spots are precious, and with the team looking like a possibly serious playoff contender, they don't need any distractions.
