This will be the first time since 2012 that I'm going to be within reach of a TV or internet during the first two weekends of the NFL postseason. For that reason, I'm kind of psyched to watch playoffs.*

However... if Covid just ended the whole season right now, I'd definitely see the bright side.

(*You'll notice I haven't missed a Jets playoff game. Just "lucky" I guess.)

Yeah....I mean, in any year, the team with the first pick is going to be a bad team...by definition that’s how it goes

we are set up with good assets ... more so with potential in terms of high draft picks and lots of cap space....with only a few actual players on board....I agree with the article that Becton and Mims have looked good so far...Crowder is good.... it much to get excited about after those guys but we do have some potential.

it will absolutely come down to firing Gase and hiring the right coach. We’ve had shitty coaches for a LONG time

if we keep Gase then all bets are off

I've been on the more optimistic side of Jets fans for most of my life. But that took a downward spiral towards the end of the McCown years and watching what an utter mess the Darnold years have turned into.

At 0-11 I can't be too optimistic at the moment. But yeah it's fun to have the entire coaching staff gut along with a bevy of picks and cap space (not being sarcastic).

Unfortunately it's rather sad to have to loop forward to the off-season before Halloween every year.

Thank god I love speculating on team building and the draft. It's really the only reason I'm a lot happier than most Jets fans right now... I won't really be genuinely "optimistic" until they secure that #1 pick though. Fields is a good prospect but frankly Lawrence changes everything, even the attractiveness of the HC position and in a roundabout way the desirability as a free agent destination.

There's only reason to be optimistic if they get the #1 pick. If they fail at that, and history tells us that they will once again manage to snatch "defeat" from the jaws of "victory" yet again in this pursuit, the whole season was really all for nothing. We'll have a new coaching staff, yes, but we'll still be without a QB, we'll still have a terrible roster, and nobody that Douglas is able to bring in with his bevy of picks and the unreal amount of cap space will be able to mask the fact that we will be continuing to search for our first franchise QB since the late '60s.

Yeah these last 4-5 years I have found that the off seasons are much more fun than the actual games.

Thats really a huge problem fundamentally if you think about it. And I’m positive I’m not the only one to feel like that.

Of all the HCs we've had over the last 25-30 years, which one would you be OK with taking over the 2021 Trevor Lawrence led ny jets?

Parcells would be good BUT he HATED playing rookies, and that's gonna be 90% of our team. He would probably start Flacco for the next 2 season while Trevor rides the pine. Maybe Pete Carroll?

Right now I'm focus on who should be the next head coach. Sure the QB is important but until the Jets get the coach right we'll be right back looking for another one.

Rex would be the best choice. He made Sanchez look good. Nobody can top that.

I'm right there with you. Offseason has been the sole bright spot in JetsLand. We all think this coach or this player will be the one to take us to the playoffs and its all blown up in our faces. So we game plan the next offseason and the next one.

That’s an interesting question and no definitive answer for it. As you say Parcells didn’t like playing rookies. You could go with Carroll. I would go with Rex since he did take his team to the AFC Championship with a rookie QB. You would be assuming that TL is better than Sanchez.

So I’d have to go with Rex....

I couldn't possibly disagree more. Rex would be the next to last HC I'd bring back (Gase would be the last). Rex knew nothing about offense, didn't care to know anything about offense, and thought he could win with D. He talked aggressive and tough (like all bullies do), but when push came to shove, he was a pussy. He also was a clown and brought the circus to the Jets. That would guaranteed that Lawrence wouldn't sign with the Jets.

Dude. Seriously? Sanchez needed help. He didn't have much experience, brain power, or talent. Lawrence doesn't need the help of a HC like Rex. Rex would hamstring Lawrence. His hiring would probably be the one thing that would cause Lawrence and his agent to say that they weren't going to sign with the Jets. SMH

Wait hang on a minute......the question was assuming Lawrence was already playing for the coach. My theory is Lawrence’s talent (assuming he turns out to be a better QB than Sanchez) would allow Rex to coach without coddling him. How would you know Rex would hamstring Lawrence assuming he’s better than Sanchez? It was Rex that got the team to the AFC championship despite having a rookie QB (and not a good one).

Now as for TL actually signing with the team knowing Rex was the coach? Different story perhaps.

There is no universe in which Rex Ryan should be back with the Jets in any capacity.

He’s come the closest of all these other clowns the Jets have hired in the last twenty years. Yes his act wore thin after a while but had the Jets had better play from the QB position they would of won one of those Super Bowls......

Personally I’d shoot for Walt Michaels but the question posed didn’t go back that far.

I am trying to resist thinking about Lawrence before we play the Josh Jacobless Raiders. This game scares me the most. If we lose this week then I will start to dream. The Rams and Seahawks are going to destroy us, so I think we can relax after that. I am hoping the Jags win in next 3 weeks so we don’t have to worry at all but the Browns also concern me a bit as we matchup well against them.
