im sure its not, it may be close, or maybe his contract is front loaded...im not not positive about that though
This is AWESOME news! We all knew he'd opt out, he'd be insane NOT to. He's having a career year, and the option is his to take. Being willing to stick with the Yankees for at least 3 years allows the organization to build back up a champion with him as a centerpiece, so he gets a true opportunity to earn his ring. This was my biggest fear all year so far. He's a monster, and the Yankees have been a dud. Now he's willing to return regardless. As for a comparison on his current and proposed contracts, he makes an average of: $25,680,727/year now. 3 years @ $81M would average out to $27M/year. That's about a $1.32M raise. Low for his personal worth, but smart on his end. He has to get a raise, there's no question there. If he didn't, he'd look like a fool. However, he's probably learned that insane personal contracts are not in his own best interests. If he's making too much money, there's not enough left to pay his teammates, and he loses games while making money. At this point in his career, I'm sure the money is not his concern anymore. He's well-to-do enough as it is. He wants to raise his ring finger now. I'm sure he realizes that he needs to balance his understandable demands for payment with properly tempered intelligence. ARod in pinstripes for 600!!!
He doesn't deserve anything more than he's making now, if he opts out and wants more let him go somewhere else and use that money to improve the team in other areas. yes he's beengreat this year but it took 4 years to see that player and unless we turn it round he won' be able to validate this year w/ a big October. if we make the playoffs and he has a good october then re-sign him but if not let some other fool pay him more than $25 mil a year.
arent any of u yankee fans worried about the Angels or the Cubs or anyone else swooping in and getting him???
he wants more years. Instead of 3 guaranteed at the same rate he wants 5 or 6. This team can not afford to lose A-Rod, we would lose almost all our punch from the right side. He did win the mvp 2 years ago. I wouldnt say he has dragged his feet for 4 years. You dont just let A-Rod's of the world just walk out. What does the money matter? theres no cap , we have the money, and its not your money
I believe it's not true (as of now) was said on ESPN News or Radio not sure but hasn't been reported on regular ESPN. And the money IS identical so unless this is adding on to his current contract he would be opting out for the exact same amount of money
It is identical and the whole story is nonsense. Actually, it's insane. If he were to opt out and resign with the Yankees it would cost the Yankees 30 million more then they would have to pay him if he doesn't. As long as his current contract is in effect, Texas has to pay 10 million a year of it. If he opts out and signs a new contract Texas is off the hook. The Yankees would never allow that to happen. If he opts out, he's gone. If the Yankees want to keep him they would only give him an extension to his current contract which keeps that in effect and Texas on the hook.
And who do you suppose they will get for the 15 million a year they are paying him now to replace him? Get serious.
We need to pump this story up. Leave it to Arod to drum up some BS just when the Yanks were playing good. Yankee haters don't want him to opt out.
Just sign him to an extension, just so we could avoid this same conversation every single year, and the year after, and the year after that. I can't take it.
I would like it if Arod got the extension, George needs to loosen the old purse strings the way he has performed this season
