That's it in a nut shell. If we're really willing to suffer and have him back on the team next year then we have the upper hand; however we won't get anything for him in return. We can no longer slap the franchise tag. You can only do that 2 times.

Its going to be interesting. Don't under-estimate Abraham and what he will be willing to do. We hope he will accept Seattle money, if not then it could get ugly this year ala T.O/Philly.

Right now, most of us feel that Abe will cave...I'm not so sure. I hope you're right thought, however I wouldn't be surprise if he just decides to stay. Either way, the media will tear our FO into pieces for scarficing the team and losing 8.3 mil just to prove a point.

It has to be whats in the best interest for the team. How do you thing his players or the new coach feel knowing that he doesn't want to be here anymore.

Yes you can, with the new CBA, the 3rd year will be the avg salary of the top 5 QBs

You can ONLY franchise a player under the new, CBA rule, TWICE. And also under the new rule, the TEAM will no longer have to worry about the player's salary going against the cap until he's traded.

dwalsh is correct, but to pay a linemen top 5 QB salary is ridiculous.

I agree but I do not think it would ever get like the T.O. thing was. I don't care if we keep him, he is good and fun to watch, so I hope we do not give in to ATL. I would say keeping him is the best for the team.

  10. We are def. calling his bluff. No way he is a Jet come April 29th.

What would be so bad about having a perennial pro bowl DE back for another year???? I'll take the 10-15 sacks, 4-6 forced fumbles, and the numerous pressures. I wouldn't have let him go in the first place.

  12. How bout that he will be a disturbance to the rebuilding process w/ his whining to the media? Or how he doesnt fit well in the 3-4 scheme? Or that he wont have a great year b/c he isnt motivated to play for our team?

In a perfect world where our roster is in a solid state, we are employing a 4-3 and he actually wants to be here, having Abe would be great. But at this point he is not a good fit on AND off the field.

    Exactly-I concur

Everyone thinks he will sit out, however I don't think that. I think he will suit-up,put on a helmet, complain to anyone that will listen, whisper in the new players/draft players ears about the organization, miss meetings, and by the way earn $8.3 mil...then walk at the end of the season and we will get ZERO! All this just to prove a point. I think its not in the best interest of the team and fans at all. I want the whole team playing to win and we don't need any drama.

Keeping It Real - one more time - HE WILL ONLY WALK IF WE LET HIM, YOU CAN FRANCHISE A PLAYER MORE THAN TWICE!

What would be a really interesting twist is if he remained in NY, made nice with Tangini and went on to a hall of fame career. While highly unlikely - it's not entirely impossible. It would make for an interesting side story at the Super Bowl a year or two from now : )

If the unlikely scenario above does not happen - it is no reason to be scared of another 'TO Situation'. That can in no way, shape or form deter us from doing the right thing. Gladly, it looks as if Tangini agrees.

I wish somebody would explain to me how a player who has never been a disruption will suddenly be one and is persona non grata for wanting a contract, but half this board thinks TO would have been a great fit for the Jets and would not have been a problem?????

I believe that with this new CBA that we are certainly considering keeping Abraham. Especially since we really haven't gotten that many great offers.

If you can't call being hung over for a playoff game a disruption than what is a disruption..

Amazing. You are not really "Keeping it Real" man.

Why did you have to start this thread? I started one, with good reason, this morning, yet you decided to just continue the argument on your own stage? Come on, this is why newbies get bad names around here.

Yes, we can tag him a third time. We can tag him any number of times we are willing to pay the astronomical fee it will cost.

Plain and simple. If he isn't traded before the draft, he will be in green and white next year. If he is in green and white next year, I fully expect the FO to offer him a more than reasonable long term contract.

He isn't as disgruntled with the team as everyone keeps saying. I don't even know where people are getting this from. If you actually read what the media has been saying, he keeps expressing, through his agents, that he is unhappy with the way things have played out.

    Do you blame him?

He was promised a long term contract if he played 16 games last year. He did that. He also posted 10.5 sacks, caused fumbles, and did all the things an elite DE does. I don't blame him for being pissed.

But this is about money. Money he earned. Money he will get. He and Ellis are buddies. Hell, when he finally showed up last year, Ellis grabbed him in a bear hug and told him how much they needed him there. If JAbe gets his money from the Jets, I can all but guarantee he is the same Abraham that gives you 110% of everything he has when he is on the field.

Will he always be healthy? I doubt it. But will he still give everything in his tank whenever it is available. I am pretty damn sure he will.

JWWS, I totally agree. People were clamoring for TO a couple of weeks ago. The league's biggest cancer, and people were on him like flies on shit. Now Abe gets pissed because the deal he was working for was renegged, and everyone wants to throw stones? Ridiculous.
