Back when we had real winter, this was "The Deuce". Had to know your shit or bad things could happen. It got sanitized so this picture pretty much depicts a long ago era of NYC.

Feel free to chip in with any "Deuce" stories. :)

Cman, are you just trying to get us to Google obscure 1970s porno movies? If so, mission accomplished.

Exact same place I had a memorable encounter around 1970 but in the summer. Having had dinner nearby, maybe after a show around midnight, was on Broadway around the corner and heard sounds of a large crowd so went to the corner to take a look. There was what looked like a mob of at least 500 people heading from the West Side taking up the whole width of 42nd Street chanting something I couldn't at first make out. There were few white faces in the crowd.

Just as I was deciding to leave the area, I saw they were all following a guy heading towards Times Square walking down the double yellow line in the middle of the road - the chanting was calling the big smiling man's name - "Ali, Ali, Ali!"

Haven't been on the Deuce for a bit. Next trip to NYC I will make a point of a drive by on the Deuce on my way back west.

First two things that come to mind when I hung out there in the 70's.
The pimp-mobiles parked in front of the Superfly clothing store and Tad's Steaks.

Oh yeah... and the hookers.

Ah yes.. Tad's Steakhouse!! Home of the toughest steaks in the Nation bar none. Smelled great but you had to work at the chew. I wonder if Uni Royal bought the overflow for the TigerPaw tire series.

In the '70's I drove all over NYC and the outer boroughs on my job... and I loved the experience.

New York City back then was fucking amazing... ;)
